graphic cards can take some of the system's ram to improve their performance, even dedicated cards do this

it's an option in the bios usually - mine is set to dedicate 0 because i have a fairly good card

the term to look for in the bios is aperture size, but it varies from bios to bios if it's available for you to meddle with or not

this isn't so much of an issue now since most graphic cards wont run low on ram, but it still applies, and they will still use their on-board ram first before using any system memory

dedicated system memory means the system sets aside ram and won't touch it, while shared system memory means that if it needs it it will use it, but if it doesn't need it then it will make it available to the graphics card

But did you realize, the RAM does not increase feelable graphic performance.
