1. Can you nest spoilers in spoilers many many times? Either that is legal, or it's not legal (spamming, or something else that's labeled as breaking the rules)?
2. When making a tutorial for WE, can I use spoilers as chapters/sections? I hardly do see a tutorial with spoilers in there...
3. Can spoilers be used in a "Please Read" thread?
4. What conditions must one use the spoilers at all cost? Half a page long or something else?
5. Can spoilers be used to place hidden forum easter eggs? I heard some forums can do that with the spoilers, but they also said it's just a speculation.
6. Should everyone be encouraged to use spoilers?

That would be all. Thanks for answering.

1)
It's possible, but don't abuse it.
Whether it is legal or not depends on the people viewing it.
(use common sense to judge if it's too much)
And who would use so much Spoiler Tags anyway?

2)
You can, but I would prefer not.

3)
What do you mean?
You mean, while posting in the 'Please Read' threads?
Heck, I use spoilers for my Hero in the Hero contest.

4)
Use common sense, you'll know it when it is too much.
Spoilers aren't meant to shorten stuffs.
They are mostly used to hide spoiling contents and big images.

5)
Like what?

6)
If they have something spoiling that needs to be hidden...

1. Common senses from different culture may affect the outcome of the judging. So, I was hoping for a "Act" or "Law" in the Forums. Oh, and there's someone: Link to his post.

2. Why not?

3. Like, if there's a pretty long description, use the spoilers. If there's a new stuff, use the spoilers to show that there's a new addition to the thread. And something like that. Are those okay?

4. They aren't used for other stuffs?

5. Like, go to this post. You went, and there's another spoiler in an old post, saying go to this link. You arrived, and there's another old post telling you to go to that thread, and so on. Like a scavenger hunt/easter egg hunting, etc variants.

6. But if the contents aren't meant to spoil something, should everyone still be encouraged to use the spoilers?

1)
....okay there's one...

2)
-- You can use Ctrl + F to search for words
-- I just don't like it when you have to click things just to see
-- I mean, I'm going to read it anyway, so why hide it?

3)
If there's a new stuff, then people wants to know it.
If he wants to read it, why hide it?

4)
They can. The two above are just the most common use.

5)
What's the point of that in a Tech Support Forum?

6)
What's the point of hiding something that is not meant to be hidden?
If you have a big image that could stretch the page, go ahead.
If you have a big wall of text that bleeds my eye, go ahead.
If you're going to spam multiple spoilers, don't do it.
Think from other's view. Would I like to see that in a Spoiler Tag?

1. There's another one: Read the signature of this user. Here's his post. Link. Anyway, thanks for your answer.

2. Conserve space, so other people who had already read the tutorial can move on to the replies underneath the tutorial?

3. I heard, that spoiler tags are good at attracting attention. I don't know much about it, though.

4. Thanks.

5. There's an "Entertainment" forums. It could be used over there.

6. Okay, thanks for making a vaild point.

1)
Well that one's just disturbing =/
Let Mods decide his fate.

2)
Hmm... possible...
It's up to you if you want to do it, but people who view it might not have the same opinion...

3)
Well, a button with a long line is very clearly visible, of course it attracts attention.

5)
But that'll be just like those forum games, which are not allowed here.

Spoilers were introduced when the "movie" section opened.
Any use outside that is basically abuse and should be avoided.

And, what you, spammy Tom, may "think" about them is, as usual, of little to no value.

  • The Helper The Helper:
News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done
    +1
  • The Helper The Helper:
https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/

  • The Helper The Helper:
    What do you think Tom?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
I will have to get used to this.
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
The latest news feed looks good
  • The Helper The Helper:
I would like to see it again like Ghan had it the first time with pagination though - without the pagination that view will not work but with pagination it just might...
