Deputies say the 40-year-old, who was found wearing no clothes, struggled with them

A man died shortly after sheriff's deputies used a Taser on him at his Montgomery County home Saturday, authorities said.

Deputies received a call about 7 a.m. of a possible suicide attempt at a residence in the 6500 block of Golden Oaks Drive. Robert Lee Welch, 40, had been pushing people there and would not respond to family members, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies approached and tried to talk to Welch, who was not wearing clothing, authorities said. When Welch wouldn't respond, deputies tried to detain the man, who resisted and struggled, authorities said.

No wonder he dies. 50kV is a lot of electricity:(
Esepecially to a man which is grounded(in this case by being naked), if he was hit high enought the current surely can have passed thru the heart frying him from the inside:(
And during the right circumstances the 50kV divided by the bodies resistance of about 1kΩ, that would make about 50A, and that is a really high current, since 2A can kill a man instantly:(

See folks, if you are going to get arrested, where shoes, preferrably rubberboots;)

Don't the cops get any training with tasers when they're given them? This seems to be happening a lot lately, but on another note I'm not understanding how he was suicidal.

The suicidal factor is part of another story. Cops are trained and shot with tasers.

I dont think people understand how Tazers work. But its easy to look at a number like 50,000 volts and think. "OMG". In reality volts are meaningless. I once laid both my arms (without thinking) on a bull pen fence. 300,000 volts through both of my arms and yes I got stuck on that fence for about 20 seconds. Lightly burnt on my arms and hurting like hell I found myself on the ground. Why didnt 300,000 volts kill me? No amperage. Takes about 2 amps on skin contact to kill a person. Tazers will never create that amount of amperage since they step up voltage from a battery (usually 9 volts or AA, some LI Ion) and in doing so cut possible duration of the shock alot never building up the amperage. They do shock multiple times, but you cant hold them down indefinitely and get the peak voltage, heat and battery drain kick in very fast reducing it quickly.

More people have died of officers trying to restrain them by hand than by tazers. Its easy to crush a windpipe, knock someones head against an object or make them land on something sharp if you have to wrestle with him. I bet they even tried physically subdueing him before the tazer. Almost gauranteed there is a contributing factor in this. Drugs, medical condition (strokes and heart attacks will make some people go bezerk) and more could have been involved all basically putting him at the end of his life at that moment.

Its easy to say alot of negative things. Cops are killers. Cops are thugs. Cops are abusing their power. While I think we have serious issues in this country I dont think law enforcement is seriously that broken. I think it would be more reasonable to just wait for the autopsy results that weren't in the article to come.

How come you're so into recipes lately? Never saw this much interest in this topic in the old days of TH.net

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though

Heard Houston got hit pretty bad by storms last night. Hope all is well with TH.
