Upgrading Graphics for Windows 98

Hello all.

I am currently creating another desktop with windows 98 as OS for testing purpose. The motherboard is VIA (pretty new for an old OS).
I tried to install most of the drivers, but the graphics driver cant be install because it is not supported by the OS.

So is there any other ways to upgarde the graphics for Win98.
Current color bit is 16. I wanted it to be 32bit. Is there any softwares still available to do this?

Thks

you need to give us the video card model as the very minimum.. but I wouldn't even bother doing it that way, just create a virtual machine and do it all there - who uses windows 98 anymore? if you just a machine to play around with, install linux instead of an old windows

Slapshot is right, in order for us to help you with your Win 98 question we need to know what video card you have. The better option though is to run the virtual machine like slapshot said so you can reduce the hardware incompatibility level to nothing. In the virtual machine the video is emulated and you don't have the same problems as trying to just installing Win 98 on a new computer.

I didnt buy any graphic card. Im just using the built in Graphics.
By the way, if I use Virtual Machine, even if the OS is 98, the graphics wont be affected?

still can't look for drivers without the motherboard model that contains said integrated graphics

what exactly do you mean by "won't be affected"? as far as compatibility goes, no, nothing should be affected, but your virtual machine will take a performance hit because it's virtualized. That said, a modern computer virtualizing windows 98 will probably still be faster then an old computer that came with windows 98 running it natively

Haha sry let me explain again.
I have the motherboard (Brand VIA) together with the CD to install the drivers. But when I tried to install the graphics driver, it says the OS Win98 is not supported.

Then now the question about the virtual machine.
Since it is virtual, it runs on the Master Desktop. Does this mean that if I install Virtual PC on WinXP (with drivers already installed), and the Virtaul OS is Win98, the VPC will run on the WinXP's drivers, so I actually dont hav to install drivers for VPC?

im not sure I entirely follow you, but basically your "main computer" (host) will run using the regular drivers, and the virtual computer will run using generic windows 98 drivers that are being emulated by the host, so yes, you won't need to install the 98 drives for VPC

im still not sure of the motherboard, need a specific motherboard model number, but it seems unnecessary at this point if the virtualization works

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
