i am temporarily using vista
i would like to continue working on my maps
i put the warcraft 3 disk in and the auto run came up
it had a wierd message saying "windows NT not supported"
i installed it anyways
when i tried to play it
it wouldnt run because i didnt have direct x 8.1 or higher
so i downloaded direct x 10 and it wouldnt install
it kept giving me an error at the end

"an internal system error occured.
please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your Windows folder to
determine problem"

i looked for the logs but they dont exist

any help?

Have you checked on the warcraft disc?
Or if you have any other game discs for that matter which is somewhat new.
Most of the games today has installation files for directX on their install cds.

Edit:

Bah:eek: That I did not know. I don't have it and probably won't untill I upgrade my comp:eek:

Then I leave this one to you then. Not sure how nowing wich directX version he has should make it work.

P.S. Have you changed the compability for the war3.exe? Since wc3 is not made for vista, it could cause problems that way also:)

I don't remember having any problems installing it on Vista but try installing the latest patches for the game from http://us.blizzard.com/support/arti...ategoryId=2712&parentCategoryId=&pageNumber=1

Blizzard also has some instructions here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20659&searchQuery=directx&pageNumber=1

Yes, Vista comes with DirectX 10 but I remember seeing some games ask you to install DX9 - compatibility glitches probably (the two versions seem to coexist somehow as DirectX 10 stays on the system.) I don't think war3 ever had that issue for me.

Usually that error means you are using an unsupported video card / ie no 3d acceleration ... or you don't have the drivers loaded. How you would be running Vista on a system like that, I don't want to ask. But have you confirmed that it meets the game's requirements?

i ran wc3 on this computer when it was running xp
i doubt there is anything wrong with my cd
my graphics card might not support the direct x 10 though maybe.
you said it is possible to have 9 and 10 simultaneously right?
ill download 9 and try it
oh and the thing about drivers...
idk its a new install of vista so maybe they need updating
i dont know where to go to update them though
