Windows XP Frequent Hangs

I installed Windows XP Pro. Great operating system. One problem though... I get frequent hangs which cannot be escaped using CTRL+ALT+DEL. These hangs occur while surfing the internet with Internet Explorer 6.

After figuring these hangs are there to stay, I headed over to the event logger to see if anything was reported. Indeed there was. It told me the BIOS is sending commands which may cause system instability. At that point I thought a BIOS update would do it. The problem is, the company making my motherboard brand no longer has an fonctionnal download section. Of course, I e-mailed them to report the problem a month ago. Still no response. Poor support ? Oh yes. After a month of inactivity I figured they either went out of buisness or are no longer supporting their own products. I searched Google for any mirror sites. Nothing. I am obviously desperate, hopefuly someone can help me out of the gutter. I will post my motherboard's name should it help.

Hey I bought my old computer from that company in the middle.

Anyway they don't stock Future Power anymore. It's not quality stuff =)

Just my luck... What do you mean Grimlock ?

Here is the full error message from the Event Logger. It happened a few times.

AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address (0x70), which lies in the 0x70 - 0x71 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I did try searching Microsoft's database without luck... No wonder this computer was rather cheap when I bought it.

just a sec, I'll restart and have alook.

I suspect it will be on the first page of your BIOS, i.e. the one thats comes up when you first enter it. It'll be a few letter and maybe a couple of numbers, a -, some numbers, a -, and a few more numbers, although don't quote me on that.

Yet another page of interest.

I think there is a way out. I noticed my ID identifies my motherbaord as JetWay's. Does this mean I should get one of their BIOS upgrades ? Not sure which one though, I don't want to mess up my motherboard.

You are indeed correct my NNR. It is a jetways motherboard with award bios, this link will take you to their main page.

ON the nav bar, go to download area, main board, bios, and it's listed about 1/2 of the way down.
Glad to be of service.

I don;t suppose you'd happen to know whether your mobo is a
663AS/663AS PRO/663AS Ultra would you?

How can I find out ? Let's keep in mind this is risky buisness and yet it must be done.

I'm pretty sure I posted any valuable information in my previous post but there might be additional information elsewhere also.

In this case I would guess it is but let's make sure first. I will check my motherboard's documentation.

The bios updates are specific to certain problems, and for certain subtypes of the said mother board.

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though

Heard Houston got hit pretty bad by storms last night. Hope all is well with TH.
