An eyewitness is providing a harrowing account of how a pregnant woman was shot on Friday in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Star spoke to a 29-year-old woman identifying herself as Shédanja, who maintained that she was in the parking lot of the Family Dollar store located at 6th Street and Prospect Avenue, where police were reportedly attempting to arrest a man and woman in connection with a suspected carjacking.

The man exited the vehicle and ran, jumping a fence. He was pursued by three officers. The woman got out of the car and was ordered to the ground. The eyewitness says that the woman told police that she was pregnant and couldn’t follow that command.

The woman reportedly also told officers that there was a gun in the car, and she began backing toward a fence. Authorities continued to approach her with their weapons drawn. She then ran three steps from them, and they shot her five times.

Kansas City police have charged a pregnant woman with exhibiting a handgun in her encounter with police before she was shot 5 times.

Witnesses claims that she had her hands raised moments before the shots were fired prompted outrage on social media with many reporting she was unarmed at the time.

Law enforcement in Kansas City, Missouri, was responding to reports of a carjacking when they encountered Leonna Hale and her boyfriend at a Family Dollar at 6th and Prospect Ave.

The Kansas City police officers told passengers in the car next to them to exit the vehicle, prompting the man inside the suspected car to flee on foot as police officers chased him.

    Yeah Tom, me too sorry for your loss buddy my mom told me she finds out her olds friend died from Google searching them. She had not talked to one of her old friends in a year and found out she died from Google. Also another one in the same session. RIP all of them my sincere condolences Tom

    We have some elderly guests that regularly come hang out at the bar at the end of the night, and every once in a while we don't see someone for a few weeks and then someone shows up with their obituary.

    He was just such a sweet old man, we had two servers pregnant and they held a baby shower together, he was soooooo fucking excited to get to see a baby. Unfortunately he died a month or so before they were born

    So I decided to Google some people that I had not seen or heard from in a while and sure enough one of my old best friends, we had a falling out years ago but whatever, find out he died of Pancreatic Cancer in January. I have also lost a few of my closer acquaintances from growing up the last year. Getting old - people die - I kinda thought it was going to be this way a few years ago....
