I built my new computer and I have the 32 bit windwos 7 OS. I finished installing warcraft 3 and when I try to play it tells me I need direct X 8.0 or higher.
When trying to play CrossFire, it shuts my computer down and gives me a long explanation I can't read fast enough.
and I even tried playing Maplestory and it says that this version of windows doesn't support this game.

I'm wondering if theres an upgrade I need to install to fix all these features

*note*
I dled all the cds that came with my graphic card, and a directx version from microsoft and it still doesn't work!

You're using an OS that isn't 100% supported, nor has had a public release that costs cash. Prob not much you can do.

I've searched on the internet for some solutions, and I've tried the compatibility option, but crossfire doesn't work

EDIT
I solved the DirectX issue by going to properties and adding -opengl to the end of .exe"
However, my driver said it caused stability issues and was disabled.
Is there anyway to enable it without causing harm? Warcraft runs in low graphics and very slowly

What graphics card do you have?

And installing drivers off the CD isn't a good idea, they are usually very outdated, a CD can't update itself. Windows 7 likely wasn't even in beta when those CDs were made. Go to the manufacturer's website and get your drivers over there.

I have the specs here
It's an ati radeon 4890
Only warcraft was downloaded through a cd, crossfire and maplestory were downloaded from their website.
I searched through google and other forums claim that even compatibility mode won't work and that the retail version is the solution.

what's annoying is when I start crossfire, it goes into a blue screen detecting a problem and shuts my computer down. Other people have had the same error and I tried their suggestions but it still didn't work

Ok dude if you want help you're gonna have to listen...
The version from the CD is outdated as I have already said. This means that there is most likely no support for Windows 7 as it is relatively new.

You clearly just posted that you have the driver version 8.59. The latest ones, which I just linked you to are 9.6.

If you plan on getting Windows 7 64-bit it is not a simple upgrade, it's a complete reinstallation of your operating system. You cannot upgrade from a 32 to 64 bit OS not vice versa.

(Based on your +rep I think you got it working now?)

Yes I do
and thanks for helping me
I thought cd was reffering to warcraft, rather than the one with my graphic card, and yeah I plan on getting a blank dvd from my friend to reinstall everything

so I'll finish by thursday
thx,

also if I were to get 64 bit, would I have to delete 32 bit, or would it do that autoly

I can play anything but crossfire =(

Put 64 bit disc in, install and it will delete all your old data if you choose to format.
I don't know how the installer works, but it may allow you to create a second partition to install 64 bit on.

You're better off just doing a fresh format and reinstalling 64-bit. Partitions are never a good idea imo.

Make sure you back up anything important you have first that you want to save.

As for that Crossfire game, that's a browser game right?

Are you sure you have the right plugins? What browser are you using?

From what I see on their homepage, it's not a browser game, it's a MMO.

I get the BSoD Blue Screen of Death
as for the error theres a cryptic code for it
Stop: 0x0000008E(0xC000005, 0xA9D7E400, 0x99F4B980, 0x00000000
dump_whimmic.sys. Address A9D7E400 base at A904B000, datestamp 49f698f

I looked on the windows 7 forum and a user was able to identify the problem by looking at the memory dump files. I can't open mine for some reason

It's probably a windows 7/crossfire error, so it might not be solveable

Oh, sorry. I never heard of that game. :D
I'd look into the settings, and turn off any odd things.
