If you don't like the color of this game!

At the end, the point is that the current selection of colours and shapes creates an atmosphere very different from that of Diablo 1 or 2.:(

Telling you off? Maybe because this thread is basically saying "The light in D3 is good, stop complaining, because your opinion is wrong" AKA: People have different opinions, yours isnt "the right one." (Theres no "Right" opinion)

Remove the "because your opinion is wrong".
There is actually some aspects of the game that I don't like either that some of you would probably love your pants of about;)

I have never said that my oppinion is the right one, this thread was created a very long time ago when I was sick and tired of everybody complaining about the colors, I really don't care anymore.
Since the game is D3 no matter what, it will probably be one of the best games anyway;)

The thing is, I think that when the ones who "flamed" in this thread, or atleast got a little hot headed, they read it, they already had their oppinion set, and that to me is a bad thing:(

If I recall correct there was the same thing going on with D2 when that was about to come out, not sure about that tho:p

Diablo 2 uses 2D sprites in a 3-dimensional world.

/argument

No, it is not:p It is all 2D, if it where 3D, then I would not have been able to play it on my first comp(no 3D support on that one):p

Yup, and that is somewhat what I said in the first post, but with another thin added:
Will that really stop it from being a diablo game?

Yes, I believe it will, because:
1. The Diablo gameplay is addictive, but also often times monotonous
2. When the game has such a gameplay that does not engage ALL your attention to the actions of your hero, you start to think of the world around you and you eventually submerge in the world
3. The "world" is made up by the events and the graphics and the style and the sounds, and the way all these work together, for the purpose of the discussion, can be called "atmosphere"
4. The change of graphic style to one without gothic and satanic elements changes the "atmosphere" of D3 relative to the "atmosphere" of D1 or D2
5. Ergo: it is a different game

...to put it short and simple. I am also worried, because what will be contained in that DiabloIII box will not be Diablo. It will be a hack&slash RPG but it will not be Diablo in its essence. As a result, the simulationists that played Diablo 2 or 1 will be really damn disappointed. Caveant Blizzard.

No, you cant just say "Stop saying that you don't like it", because those are people's opinions, your saying to get rid of their opinions. I don't see how you cant correlate that...

Will that really stop it from being a diablo game?

Yes, yes it will. I could create a whole series of games, then, one game, just decide to implement nothing in it, and have it suck. Its still the game, right? Wrong.

It will turn up like Metallica making a hip-hop album, Cheesy.

The colors are different.
The game is different.

Different doesn't mean bad.

Stop arguing.

don't tell me what to do, RAGE RAGE RAGE. Honestly though, it'll be great. I'm certain that the reason it looks so different is because they can do so much more with it. I'll pop anyone in the face who thinks D2 or D1 look better when D3 comes out.

I like Diablo III's current art direction - very painterly, it reminds me of Baldur's Gate. I will admit that the dungeons seem a little overly WoW-esque, but I don't mind it that much.

Another thing to consider is that it's quite common for older games to just plain look darker as it allows for an easier use of the 256 color palettes and the lower resolutions during the time. As 32-bit color and 3D graphics emerged, it became easier to express a virtual world with more color variety. If Blizzard had the tools (or Diablo I and II were produced in this century), they could have been considerably lighter, just due to the technological differences. Good examples of this change from darker to lighter tones in games include the Fallout series and even StarCraft itself, if you ask me.

In my opinion, Qft. Haven't seen much sense in this thread lately. No offense intended.

Also guys, the only gameplay video we've ever seen was released over a year ago.. Sure we've had screenshots but they don't give as good of a look as videos do, so the art may have had some changes.

Indeed. Maybe the world is being sucked into a plane of corruption and the entire terrain flashes into a dark, gritty counterpart of itself at random. :p

Besides, while I agree that there needs to be some contrast, and its good to have light to make the darkness more meaningful, how do you know these areas of light won't be far a few between?

All I'm saying is don't complain about a sandwich you want to eat but hasn't been made yet but you heard that there might be some bad things about it because its a new version of the sandwich.

Or something like that..

Looky looky, Cheesy somewhat repeated the thing I tried to say with this thread from the beginning:)

It only took about 5 pages for someone to get the message:D
(Not that it was beacuse of me, but I take credit for it anyway:eek:)

Oh, and one more thing. How can we be sure that it was not played with full brightness and such in the demo video?:p

And also, I think that it is better if they got a fully functional night and day cycle in the game, and not the crappy, barely noticable one in D2;)

And finally: You don't know how it will look when it comes out people! Nuff' said!

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done

  • The Helper The Helper:
https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
