Sci/Tech Is Apple hiding problems with fiery iPods?

I got a 1 gig mp3 player with an FM radio picker-upper that I got 5 years ago for $30 (black friday special). I don't need fancy music file types on an overpriced piece of machinery to listen to my music.

I listen to a lot more than 8 gb of music.

People always say they do, but seriously, I refuse to believe that. That many songs take so long to listen to it would still be considered "listening every single song once in a while". If not, that would mean you're not listening to it all. You can cram a lot of GB on a MP3 and like every single song they contained, but there'll always be only a flard of them you're going to listen on a regular basis. Others, you'll always skip past and listen to like once every 2 weeks.

I listen to music almost the whole time, so unless I want to swap the music once every other week or so I need that extra storage
