One of the largest glaciers in Antarctica is thinning four times faster than it was 10 years ago, according to research seen by the BBC.

A study of satellite measurements of Pine Island glacier in west Antarctica reveals the surface of the ice is now dropping at a rate of up to 16m a year.

Since 1994, the glacier has lowered by as much as 90m, which has serious implications for sea-level rise.

The work by British scientists appears in Geophysical Research Letters.

The team was led by Professor Duncan Wingham of University College London (UCL).

Calculations based on the rate of melting 15 years ago had suggested the glacier would last for 600 years. But the new data points to a lifespan for the vast ice stream of only another 100 years.

Polar Bears are the Arctic
I nearly LOLed when I saw that :p
Maybe penguins then? But they can swim..

I don't see how heightened water levels will affect us much though. Maybe a few tsunamis, but nothing else.

Global water level increase means flooding. That's the general idea, nothing much we can really do about it.

Rising sea levels will not directly cause more tsunamis. They are caused by earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, and a whole load of other ways, but not by mere rising sea levels.

And we shouldn't worry about Global Warming. We already have the solution.

That is a really impractical solution(could work tho). If I did not know better I would say you watch to much futurama:p

I would say that the dutch people would be worst of:eek:
But what would be bad about them going under water?
They would become legends for crying out loud:eek:
Dutchland, the land that sank to the bottom of the sea(Does it ring a bell to anyone):p

And if global warming gets out of control, and all the ice melts, the next ice age could be triggered.

Oh.. Wait.

The ice-age is a method the Earth uses to cool down much like us sweating when we are too hot. Makes sense Romek? :p

Pollution makes more carbon dioxide and other high atmosphere elements to rise up, making less sunlight able to escape. Causing Antarctic to melts, causing sea levels to rise.

Sea Level rising and temperature rising causes the world climates to change.

The problem is we know that much but, when we say the World Climate changes, we have no idea how bad it could be. We can only assume.

Also with the sea level rising most coastal cities will (probably) be underwater, (Especially Florida) so...

This is serious business guys.
Global warming is a bigger problem than terrorist, national debt and all of that. The potential damage the can be done to humanity due to this is huge. Too bad are leaders just don't give a damn.

Yeah i agree, People don't really realize the damage this can cause until it actually happens. If we don't act now, it will be too late and we will regret it

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
