Released on Gamescon, Blizz dota will come out by the time HOTS comes out.

What heroes will it feature ? The most emblematic Blizzard heroes, not only Kerrigan and Zeratul, but Sylvanas and possibly Decard Cain too !

More info about DOTA 2 will be given at Blizzcon 2011.

Also noteworthy, to me at least, is that the presumed fan-art, as posted here, is actually the real thing, from the looks I got on several Gamescon HotS screens.

Unfortunately, there wasn't much at all, and not really anything new out there... :(

Well, what's yet another year of waiting among friends? :p

True. Hopefully I will have saved enough for a preorder of the HOTS collector's edition. The terran, meh. The other two, I can't miss.

Save? If you start now, 5 bucks a month will do for "saving" :D

Yap, I have saved up a decent amount already, just you never know when you will decide to invest the money in a keyboard/mouse/headset :D

By the way, I added the official Blizz DOTA banner thingy.

> the official Blizz DOTA banner

Ridiculous. Kerrigan hidden in a corner? CENTER PIECE! Blizzard... pffft.

The banner is telling quite something, the guys are in the front and the women stay behind.

so.. how long do you guys predict before a lawsuit from (valve?) about the "dota" copyright infringement, which then forces blizzard to re-name it to "xxx", served with the exact same words as what blizzard sent to the guy who created world of starcraft?

Well, it wasn't Valve (or IceFrog) who created the original, so I doubt that lawsuit would be too successful. The gameplay comes from Blizzard in the first place though.

Actually the poster reveals Hellscream. I think that there are gonna be 20-30ish heroes per game. I do wonder if the Diablo universe will be included... there are several bad characters (like leoric and the 3 brothers) who would be epic.

On a side note: Am I the only one who loves that after purchasing a blizzard game you get tons of blizz content for free, such as new map pool each season, and cool mods every now and again, containing new icons and achievements.

i feel like when you purchase games like wc3/sc2/halo, you are really buying several games in one because of the ability of world editors. thats why when it comes to blizzard games i never feel bad about spending that much money on a game. (well and not to mention the games are amazing in themselves too)

as for heroes in the game, i want diablo, zuljin, thrall, uther, grom (i always thought grom was a girl in wc2 because of the voice actor), tassadar, and the butcher in it.

I want sylvanas, Anub'arak and Kael. From diablo, Leoric, Blood Raven and well... EVERYONE!

@Bloodcount, "EVERYONE" huh, that would be awesome! :D

I think Blizzard can change the name any time, it's not a big problem, heh :D

Will it really be called "Blizzard DotA"?
The name sounds bad to me. . .

The name isn't exactly a winner... but it does give you a clear idea of what to expect.

at least if you know wc3. they could call it blizzard LoL as well, but the name would still be a bad idea.
they should at least show some originality and give it a proper name, like a subtitle maybe.

> at least if you know wc3

An interesting point.
What I'm expecting from Blizzard is not yet another remake of the AoS / DotA idea.

What I expect is some kind of... let's call it "progression", that would help new players getting into it.
You know, when you have to chose from 50+ or so Heroes, first time you play the map... what kind of informed choice can you hope to make there?

I remember my first couple games, back in the days...
The flames already started in the lobby.
"What??? You can't go with <random name> here, Abjured Reciprocation is useless with <other random Hero name here>"... as if that would tell anyone anything :p
(The above quote is my own version. The original used several severe expletives)

I'm sure there's some way to do better than that.
Not that I'm seeing it though.
Let's hope someone at Blizzard does.

I think with all the "Lets make something new and unique and complex and competitive" policies of most companies, the best old school mechanisms are forgotten.

Remember how in old games sometimes you would unlock additional characters after completing the game ? Lets say that BDota will have ~50 heroes. You start off with 5. Each time you get a win you unlock 1 new hero. That ensures a decent replay value(imagine if new versions are released with new heroes) and I think fixes the problem that you have to learn what 50+ heroes do and what items you have to get dor them.

Turns out Blizzard already gave this some thought:

Getting it right and just meeting the Blizzard quality bar, and questioning a lot of the assumptions behind the genre, which is what we do at Blizzard

What we showed at the original BlizzCon, we've completely flattened it since then and completely rebooted it because we just thought, there's more we can question on this

... the DOTA everyone plays on Warcraft 3 is not particularly accessible to the novice

One of the game development philosophies we have at Blizzard is, easy to learn and difficult to master. That mod for Warcraft 3 doesn't really fit that description

... chases the vast majority of people off because their team mates are screaming at them

We've just been ... really make it more user friendly

Seen here

I like the part where the team mates are screaming :p

Blizzard have got the right ideas to base it off. IE the user-friendly experience.

Or even third party. Like if you don't have an original one in a functional condition, you cannot play this game properly. Like yeah the keyboard mods exist, but I think those are BARELY functional
  • Varine Varine:
And since almost all of my programming experience is with defunct shit now, I figure my best place is helping preserve legacy stuff. Which I don't know how to do necessarily, but I need some kind of a hobby and figuring out how older things worked is the only shit that really interests me. Well soldering and restoration is fun too, but no one is bringing me new stuff to fix and restore, so it's mostly old shit, and I LOVE OG Xbox so much. I want to make sure it can function as long as possible, until someone can effectively emulate it at least. I have like 15 I was going to fix over the winter and didn't get to.

  • Varine Varine:
I also have a couple OG gameboys, but idk if I can do that without like, manufacturing new parts that no one makes anymore and I can't do that right now

Currently in the middle of getting the probate process going. We're doing the informal probate process.

  • Varine Varine:
A probate is usually done with a will, yes? If so I am sorry for your loss

Yeah Tom, me too sorry for your loss buddy my mom told me she finds out her olds friend died from Google searching them. She had not talked to one of her old friends in a year and found out she died from Google. Also another one in the same session. RIP all of them my sincere condolences Tom

We have some elderly guests that regularly come hang out at the bar at the end of the night, and every once in a while we don't see someone for a few weeks and then someone shows up with their obituary.
  • Varine Varine:
We usually let them do their memorials there in the morning if they want to and I'll make them some snacks and drinks. There was one guy named Tom that came in like every night and would sit by himself and get a bunch of soup and a glass of wine. idk why but he LOVED our fucking soup, like he would order a fucking quart of it at a time and would always get so sad when we stop doing it for the summer.

  • Varine Varine:
But he also loved our calamari, which is another thing I hate but it sells super well so I can't change it. There was one day he came in and was asking me how to make it, because he tried to at home once in the off season when we stop running it and he really wanted it lol
  • Varine Varine:
I think he's one of the only people I've made recipes for for free because he really wanted a broccoli cheddar, and it was like dude I don't have a recipe, it's just whatever I have, but here, this is how you do it
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think he ever figured out how to do the calamari in a pan though, like idk how to do that either. He was afraid of the at home deep fryers though and it's like yeah, that's fair, I am too
  • Varine Varine:
He was just such a sweet old man, we had two servers pregnant and they held a baby shower together, he was soooooo fucking excited to get to see a baby. Unfortunately he died a month or so before they were born
  • The Helper The Helper:
So I decided to Google some people that I had not seen or heard from in a while and sure enough one of my old best friends, we had a falling out years ago but whatever, find out he died of Pancreatic Cancer in January. I have also lost a few of my closer acquaintances from growing up the last year. Getting old - people die - I kinda thought it was going to be this way a few years ago....

    Forum running super slow again
  • Ghan Ghan:
Not really clear from the stats as to what is causing the slowness.
  • Ghan Ghan:
We get a lot of guest traffic so it may just be the load is getting too high and not from any particular source.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Looks like the server is maxed out on CPU.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Oh it looks like a lot of the traffic is Silkroad Forums. That domain isn't protected by Cloudflare.
  • Ghan Ghan:
But the old Silkroad site is still on its own server. I just had a test site set up on this server for it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I just disabled that test site. Let's see if that helps the load.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Looks much better already.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I had actually forgot about the Silkroad site. I had asked
  • The Helper The Helper:
SD Ryoko about it and he said the couple of people left on there really like it, that was a few years ago, maybe I should check back
  • jonas jonas:
I guess when you're getting old, and the last day of soup season draws near, you start wondering
  • jonas jonas:
will I make it to the start of the next season? or was this the last time I'll ever have my favorite dish?
