Expanding sound effects

Hi, I wanted to ask, if it is possible to modify sounds somehow, so they can be heard even if you are out of range, same as it was in older Warcraft games or Starcraft. So you can hear sounds of battle even though you are far away on the map. Not only it adds to atmosphere, but I think it is important even in terms of gameplay. I looked at sound editor in World editor, but there is nothing you can do with internal sounds. Is something like this possible? Thank you

You can 'use as sound' all combat sounds etc, then change cutoff distance and set path to original. The unit should be visible to a player to here the sound though

And how can I change that path. Because when I edit the sound (cutoff distance, etc...) it already had original path there and I can´t change it anywhere else.

Maybe if there is some way to modify these sounds outside the editor and then replace them?

well this is just a guess but it should work by using the import manager thingy since thats how you override ingame textures aswell.
just change the path of the imported file to the path of the file you want to override.

jnZ, that´s what I meant, but the problem is how to modify sounds. How to make them don´t stop playing when you are out of range.

Other solution would be faking it. I already tried playing sounds using triggers, but the problem here is, that when I am in the range of the source, I hear the sound twice(unit sound and the one I played through triggers). I tried to synchronize them, but they don´t play precisely at the same time. And I don´t think there is some way to make it sound further from it´s source.

OK, I played with it a bit and it is cutoff distance which defines this. There is that trigger Sounds - Set Sound Cutoff Distance. Now is there some way you could store sound effects played by the model? Or you can store just the sounds you play by triggers?

Well, if this isn´t a pleasant surprise. I managed to trigger nearly all the sounds, when I found out, that the game won´t play the several same sounds simultaneously. That´s great, really, Warcraft 3 had the worst sound settings from all the Blizzard games.
