Ok, so I checked my system temperature and it was only around 40 degrees C, so I don't think it's my motherboard. After running the computer a second time, the temperatures were not nearly as high as the first: it never really hit over 62-63 degrees. Still I didn't like the consistent 57-60 degrees and the fan at idle so I checked my cpu, listened to slapshot. I essentially just locked my cpu fan in so that it couldn't move at all. Before i could just pull it a little and it would become tilted and not be touching the cpu, which alarmed me right away.
I've had the comp running for about 3-4 hours, played a few games of League of Legends consecutively, and the temperature never hit over 60 C. My Cpu is now at an average of 47-52 idle, and 50-60 during gaming. I have my bios set up to warn me if my cpu goes over 60 degrees, so I think everything is fine. I still get some periodic lag spikes when i play amnesia, which didn't happen before, but I don't know the cause for that.
