Physical damage over time

I'm making an ability that does physical damage over time. There is an ability that uses physical dot so I can use it as a dummy?
Or should I create a dummy attacking unit with poison sting? (if it does physical damage..)


If theres none, well, I can create a triggered dot, but I prefer using dummy's.

Any suggestions?

I don't only want damage over time, I'm searching for physical damage over time.
Is poison sting physical? Which attack type? normal?
 
Well, I don't think you can do that. You're almost asking for a sword that keeps hitting the enemy even when the person that wields it is doing nothing. If you want a specific type of damage, I would recommend triggering it.
 
Yeah I think I'll just trigger it.
Crap, every spell I code keeps adding a huge size of local variables :(

Well, if you want something to do over time, you can create a dummy unit and classify it as a worker so it won't automatically attack a nearby enemy. Then, when you need to, order that dummy unit to attack the opponent then tell it to stop after 1 second. (The attack cooldown should be 1 second+ if you wanted to do that)

That seems like a work so you should stick to triggering it. But since you favor dummies more, I thought you might wanted to do this.
 
Yes, that's what I'll do if I found some ability that does PHYSICAL damage over time. If I just wanted to do a magical DoT, I would just use acid bomb or something like that.

But I'll trigger it, it's a decision ;)

    It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
