create organic robots?

Might as well clone some porn stars....

Currently clones are considered unethical, im sure an organic robot would also be weighed on the scales of morality, but it seems like a possibility. As well, last i knew the sheep they cloned ended up dying not long after.

If i am conscious, and you are much like myself and admit to be conscious, Then it would be illogical to assume otherwise.

Not at all. If consciousness transcends empirical definition, then it is entirely possible that you are the only conscious being and external human beings such as myself are p-zombies. If you can define consciousness in terms that allow you to recognize it in others, then it must be possible for a machine to fit these terms closely enough to be conscious.

Love is much like color, you can't know what someone else sees, but you can come to the conclusion based on common experiences what it is.

You can't come to the conclusion that everyone experiences it because it is a common experience. I hope you can see how this is circular.

What about emotion? can a computer feel sadness? happiness? hate?

At this moment, computers can not think/feel/experience. I don't think anyone has said that they can.

You people are forgetting that humans could also advance sexually with new breakthroughs. It would probably be cheaper at one point to just get a real man/woman.

Also, society might turn it's back on it for some time and be in the views of blow up dolls etc.

I leave room for the unknown, perhaps one day they will create organic robots, which could then potentially possess emotion. No one can really predict the future, but we've conquered quite a bit in our short stay on this planet.

But...organic robots with emotions...that would practicly be the same as a new lifeform right? If its organic and has emotions, its more human than its a robot.

The pro(?) of an organic robot, is that you can control how the robot will be. Or so I think...

Ah, but if you controll how he is, the emotions arent his emotions eh? Thats what makes this such a tricky subject.

I'm confused as to how a child's learning of an emotion is any different than a robot's programing of an emotion.

You could always have the scenario were he is initially programmed, and develops emotions due to his organic components.

Throughout this entire thread, I have only one comment :)

Plus, if robots are going to be taking girls like that off the market then I'm really pissed.

Dude, if you really set your sights on girls like that for your life, get ready to die a virgin

A child doesn't "learn" an emotion. People have base instincts that they're born with, and these emotions come out in varying frequencies in different ways as the child grows up. The brain develops with no external help and the child matures. Robots have to have maturity programmed into them, and they never undergo the process of maturing.

Then, what is the difference between human instincts and program?

Also, brain development is highly influenced by the "outside"

Human instincts evolve naturally over time. It's been found that teenage and child brains work differently then an adult brain. Over time, the teenage brain's thinking shifts from the amygdala to the frontal lobe, and the child learns to be more mature and rational. A robot's brain undergoes no such development. There's no way that a machine could stop thinking one way and start thinking in another without a great deal of external tinkering changing the way the robot thinks and interacts with the world.

No, they are different. Let me name 1 difference:

Human emotions have a reaction for everything. Every situation they come across, even if it is an unique situation.

Robots though, only have reactions for the situations they are programmed to react to in a certain way.

That way robots can come really close to mimicing emotions, but can never have real ones. Just this 1 difference prevents us from being truely able to call their emotions real emotions.

How come you're so into recipes lately? Never saw this much interest in this topic in the old days of TH.net

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am not big on the recipes I am just promoting them - I use the site as a practice place promoting stuff

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
  • Ghan Ghan:
Heard Houston got hit pretty bad by storms last night. Hope all is well with TH.
