Filming on Paramount+ drama Star Trek: Picard has been shut down since Monday following a sizable COVID-19 outbreak.

Sources say more than 50 members of the large production tested positive on Monday, which was the first day of work after the Christmas break. The Patrick Stewart-led series has one of television’s biggest crews, numbering more than 450 staffers. The infections impacted multiple zones, including cast in zone A.

Production on the series was immediately shut down Monday and has remained dark since. Sources say filming is expected to resume early next week, if not sooner, though details remain in limbo.

The highly contagious omicron variant of the virus has prompted a number of shows to pause filming this week, with fellow CBS Studios-produced series including NCIS among those that have been impacted. Major events including the Grammy Awards and a number of TV and film red carpets have been canceled, while others like the Sundance Film Festival have gone virtual.

Picard films in Los Angeles, which recorded 26,754 new cases, 2,240 hospitalizations and 27 deaths on Jan. 5. In California, an average of 59,000 cases a day were reported from New Year’s Eve through Monday.

CBS Studios declined comment.

Holy Shit! They all think since they are vaccinated they are protected - oh how wrong they are. Total false sense of security.

FYI I am not vaccinated and I stay out of crowds. Even if I was vaccinated I would stay out of crowds. I am not anti vax I am just a procrastinator but damn this is just getting stupid.

Just stay careful. I'm fully vaccinated + got my booster. We'll probably get another booster around May - June, considering we've just hit 1 million new cases this week.

Dude I am a master of social distancing and staying out of crowds. I am Covid free since the start of this. I am really not worried about it. I am not trying to work on a crowded film set. The point of this is people think they are vaccinated and they are not - they are just taking a flu shot. I never get the freaking flu anyway and have never had a flu shot. Like I said though, I am not anti-vax it just worries me what I am seeing in the media about this.

I mean I haven't seen a serious article claiming full protection, usually something like 60% against catching delta, and a bit higher against serious complications. The vaccine helps you but it doesn't make you immune.

What it does is greatly reduce the speed of transmission - 60% reduction means that if you after getting infected meet 9 people, and they each meet 9 people, and those again each meet 9 people, then instead of all 1000 of you getting sick, only 125 get sick. (each time only 4 out of 9 get sick).

That is a massive difference in ICUs and Doctor capacity...

  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
