OK, So I'm in my house for a while now and I've been wondering if I just unplug my router and plug an ethernet cable from the internet jack to my computer, I wouldn't have to do all that port forwarding crap or w.e. and I should be theoretically allowed to host?

Technically, it should work.

Not all routers work with port forwarding, alot of them require you turn it into a static IP which knocks all other computers off the network.

Lizidian were you able to host after you plugged the modem directly into the computer? If you weren't, then the problem resides with the computer. You need to recheck the computer to make sure you shut down all the firewalls on it. (windows xp firewall for example)
