A popular haunted house in Simi Valley that attracts thousands of children each Halloween has been shut down because the city deemed it an unsafe structure.

Haunted Halls has been operated by Cindy Fike and her family outside their Sebring Street home for the past eight years. But what makes it popular — a covered wooden maze with steel poles, dark and spooky scenes, and volunteers that startle visitors — is the reason it was given a 72-hour notice Friday to be taken down.

Responding to an anonymous complaint, the city said the 1,200-square-foot “amusement building” didn’t have a permit.

Although it is a “great idea,” said Ted Drager, a building official with the city, the structure was a fire hazard.

Freaking Lame! I don't exactly know where Simi is but there Fire Marshall is one of the lamest F#$%ers I have ever heard of!

And if it caught fire with people inside, there'd be criticism of the city for not doing something about it
 
Well now let's go set the city on fire to show that their little permit doesn't make shit magically fireproof (I bet their permit comes on paper).
 
Make them have a couple of fire extinguishers and quit ruining the awesome Haunted House for everyone. They probably want them to have some kind of sprinkler system installed. LAME!
 
I used to work in a huge furniture store that had no fire escape, no windows on the upper three floors, no sprinkler (wasn't even equipped for them, there isn't even water passed the first floor and the water main wasn't remotely big enough), not even smoke alarms, and no one said a thing about it ever. Used to even be able to smoke in there. There are still ash trays sitting around....
 
Talk about a buzzkill, whoever complained was probably some neighbor who didn't want all the noise.

Would it not be legal to put up a tent? It would be here anyway. A tent would be more dangerous than that, and the odds for that thing catching fire when all that people is in there is just so small:(

This makes sense. With that many people packed in, it's only a matter of time before something goes wrong. If it's deemed unsafe, it has to be taken down. Safety comes before fun (in this case;).
 
This is the eighth year it's been up. Way to not be fun.
 
It's too bad. I did a lot of unsafe stuff during Halloween. It's the season for temporary anarchy. Oh well. Safety does come first.

Yeah since when are ghosts and zombies safe? With the exception of Casper, I have never heard of someone who had an encounter with a nice ghost or zombie. Except the liars who want to get on TV and are like "OH A NICE GHOST LIVES HERE WITH US WE GIVE IT FOOD AND IT LIKES DISNEY!"
 
They should have let it stay as it was. If there was some big disaster and it burnt down and killed everyone inside it, then they could just build back over it and et voila: a real haunted house :p

    Or even third party. Like if you don't have an original one in a functional condition, you cannot play this game properly. Like yeah the keyboard mods exist, but I think those are BARELY functional

    And since almost all of my programming experience is with defunct shit now, I figure my best place is helping preserve legacy stuff. Which I don't know how to do necessarily, but I need some kind of a hobby and figuring out how older things worked is the only shit that really interests me. Well soldering and restoration is fun too, but no one is bringing me new stuff to fix and restore, so it's mostly old shit, and I LOVE OG Xbox so much. I want to make sure it can function as long as possible, until someone can effectively emulate it at least. I have like 15 I was going to fix over the winter and didn't get to.

    Yeah Tom, me too sorry for your loss buddy my mom told me she finds out her olds friend died from Google searching them. She had not talked to one of her old friends in a year and found out she died from Google. Also another one in the same session. RIP all of them my sincere condolences Tom

    We have some elderly guests that regularly come hang out at the bar at the end of the night, and every once in a while we don't see someone for a few weeks and then someone shows up with their obituary.

    We usually let them do their memorials there in the morning if they want to and I'll make them some snacks and drinks. There was one guy named Tom that came in like every night and would sit by himself and get a bunch of soup and a glass of wine. idk why but he LOVED our fucking soup, like he would order a fucking quart of it at a time and would always get so sad when we stop doing it for the summer.

    But he also loved our calamari, which is another thing I hate but it sells super well so I can't change it. There was one day he came in and was asking me how to make it, because he tried to at home once in the off season when we stop running it and he really wanted it lol

    He was just such a sweet old man, we had two servers pregnant and they held a baby shower together, he was soooooo fucking excited to get to see a baby. Unfortunately he died a month or so before they were born

    So I decided to Google some people that I had not seen or heard from in a while and sure enough one of my old best friends, we had a falling out years ago but whatever, find out he died of Pancreatic Cancer in January. I have also lost a few of my closer acquaintances from growing up the last year. Getting old - people die - I kinda thought it was going to be this way a few years ago....
