> fact: jass is not a stable programming language
Ouch.
You do realize this would mean warcraft 3 mapping itself is unstable?

> fact: The entire compiler is Jass and the entire compiler is crap.
Perhaps...
But that's why we have PJass, WEHelper and Grimoire.

And just for the record...a programming language (this includes Jass) and its compiler are in 99% cases pure perfection. Nothing there can go wrong, nothing you can call "crap". They do exactly what you tell them to.
A compile error isn't a compiler's fault, its purpose is to display it...it's the dumb user that caused the error. No, I don't mean anybody in particular by this.

dude, I'm sorry but Jass is seen in the programming community as extremely unstable. It crashes a lot, the scurity issues suck. And quite frankly, wc3 map compiler doesn't always read jass the way it should.

If JASS worked 99% of the time the way it should, then I wouldn't have to constantly move triggers around even in the normal World Editor just to get them to operate in the right order.

The World Editor Compiler itself doesn't organize its own commands in the order they are given-- like it should. You can't sit there defend Jass as being 99% pure perfection when it gets confused on its own command lines!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry, but as far as my experiences have been, and as far as me reading people's help threads, the ONLY time I EVER see a map get corrupted is when:

1. a virus is present.
2. custom Jass is present.
3. custom gui is present.

I never, ever, ever, ever, ever, and you will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, find a map that is corrupted without one of those three things.

And, seriously, even if you stick Jass in the right place, it doesn't mean World Editor will. World Editor has a hard enough time sticking its OWN Jass in the proper place.

Edit: I'm not saying don't ever use jass. What I'm saying is, Jass is as stable as Fire. It's good for certain things, but doing everything in Jass is like setting off Fireworks in a National Park.

Ok some comments then I'll leave this thread alone.

Are you confusing Jass with something else? "Programming community"....what? who? I doubt anyone who is into programming uses it or has heard of it unless they are involved with warcraft or blizzard in some way. What programming language community are you talking about? website? php, java, coldfusion? or operating system languages? Jass is none of the above. It is not Java, it is not ANYTHING other than a language made by Blizzard for their games.

Kevin. If you properly read peoples posts you will see that most people agree with you that Jass is unstable. That's not the issue. Nor should "Security" even come into it.

You HAVE to use Jass to make warcraft3 maps. There is no alternative. If you write it in a different language you have to send that through a compiler which translates it into Jass. GUI is Jass.

And Yes. The Wc3 map maker DOES read its Jass correctly. It's a dumb program. It will give out what you put it. Therefore, if your maps are crashing, then maybe you're not speaking the language correctly? OR maybe your Map maker program is corrupted?

Please clarify what you mean by custom jass and custom gui. You keep saying those but a lot of people don't know what you mean by that.

You can't make a map work without Jass.
You place a unit...the editor adds a line of jass that actually creates it in-game.
You set the map name...another line comes up somewhere in the script file that actually sets it.
You add a GUI action...another line of Jass somewhere.
Now people are just...stupid...sometimes. They don't even know what they're doing, add a couple of Jass lines, produce a crash and suddenly "OMG the editor sucks, how could this happen?!??!?!?!?!". OK, the crash is certainly the syntax check's fault. But it would've never came up if you didn't make the mistake.
There is a solution of course...PJass and Grimoire/WEHelper solve this. But that's another topic to discuss.
And, speaking of which, this thread gone offtopic long ago so...

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
