Battle Royale: Hurricane Island

Hey all,

Just directing some attention to my latest mapping project, Battle Royale: Hurricane Island.

Quite simply, BR Hurricane Island is a hero-oriented, 12-player custom map that takes place on a small island terrain. Two opposing factions, the Alliance and the Black Hand, have found themselves shipwrecked there in an unexpected hurricane. To survive in this hostile climate, however, their struggle has degenerated into an every-man-for-himself free-for-all between the Alliance, the Black Hand, and the island's own native dwellers.

Win by killing off over half (6) of the opposing players. When heroes die, they will not dissipate but, rather, leave a corpse. When a hero's killer dies, the hero revives and gameplay continues. Thus, to secure victory, a player must score 6 consecutive kills without dying. Heroes begin at Level 5 and are reset to Level 5 when they revive. Each hero kill increases a hero's level by 1, regardless of the heroes' respective levels.

Additional map and hero information can be found on the official forum, located here. I encourage any of you to post feedback and responses either there or on this thread. Suggestions are also welcome.

Current map progress is at about:
40% hero completion.
0% terrain completion.

Furthermore, I would like to credit DotA and ToB for certain hero and spell inspirations (some of them taken directly), as well as The Hive Workshop for its enormous resource base.

Okay, well, I can see this hasn't garnered many responses, so here's a preview of one of the heroes. More can be found on the forums. Note: All posted heroes have been completed.

Anya Eversong,
Sun Ranger

Faction: Alliance
Primary attribute: Agility
Synopsis: Opportunist, kiter, and ranged killer

Description: A disciple of the sun god, Solis, the Ranger has sworn her service to the light, calling upon its divine power to strike down her foes. Fleet of foot and a more than able assassin, the Ranger is most feared during the day, although her Solar Battery can render her a formidable opponent under almost any circumstances. She is capable of eliminating enemies over extreme distances with the help of her long range abilities, and her Light Arrows make her an excellent tracker, truly a force to be reckoned with.

Innate:

Solis' Blessing - The Ranger draws upon the sun's energies to lend her strength. Increases attack speed by 40%, movement speed by 20%, and regeneration by 3 per second during the day or when Solar Battery is activated.

Abilities:

Light Arrows - Transforms the Ranger's arrows into shafts of pure light, increasing her damage while revealing her targets and lowering their armor.

• Level 1 - 10 bonus damage, 3 second reveal, -2 armor.
  Level 2 - 20 bonus damage, 5 second reveal, -4 armor.
  Level 3 - 30 bonus damage, 7 second reveal, -6 armor.

Overdraw - The Ranger pauses for a moment to draw her bow to its full tensile strength, giving her the ability to shoot a single, powerful arrow over a great distance, stunning the first unit it comes in contact with. If she otherwise moves, attacks, or casts her ultimate before firing, though, the ability is lost. 15 second cooldown.

• Level 1 - 75 damage, 1600 range, 3 second stun.
  Level 2 - 150 damage, 2000 range, 4 second stun.
  Level 3 - 225 damage, 2400 range, 5 second stun.

Solar Battery - The Ranger can call upon light energy stored during the day to rekindle her daytime abilities. Tapping into these reserves, however, slowly drains her mana, so she must be judicious in her use of the spell.

• Level 1 - 5 mana drained per second.
  Level 2 - 4 mana drained per second.
  Level 3 - 3 mana drained per second.

Ultimate:

Barrage - Rapidly fires a volley into the air, raining down death upon units caught in its area of effect. Stacks with Light Arrows. 50 arrows, 25-50 physical damage per arrow, 360 area of effect. 45 second cooldown.

Mm, only in very loose terms, as in, I had hoped the term "Battle Royale" would be generic enough by now to signify a "last man standing" sort of game. Beyond that, though, no, it's not an attempt to recreate either the book or the movie in any way. And, for the record, I haven't even read or seen either, so it wouldn't even be an influence in that sense.

Im new on TheHelper net and correct if im wrong but is Overdraw a skill you have taken diractly from dota, it seems just like elunes arrow with casting time.

And BTW the link to the forum page is very confusing. Is there a direct way to download the map? If not it doesnt matter but it would be nice if there was

*GASP* He said the D acronym.... Dota took skills from a hundred million games that came before that, it's just that they were mostly forgotten and for some reason Dota somehow came into dominance... things that suck tend to do that, you know?

Anyway, the map's not done yet (or at least I'm making an educated guess based off the progress bars he's posted), so a link to this would be kind of... esoteric.

As for the map, I believe I have a map called Battle Royale and it seems to have almost the basis of an idea. Was that perhaps some kind of an inspiration to it?
