How do I change Finger of Death to have a missile?

It doesn't seem to work, I remove the Finger of Death lightning effect and add missile art and set the speed, but then when I use the spell there is no graphics or sounds or anything, it just damages the target unit for the amount specified... What am I doing wrong?
 
There's nothing wrong actually. It's just impossible to edit a regular FoD to have missile art no matter what art you put. What about using Acid Bomb with low duration and X primary damage? Or if you don't mind ministun then you could use Storm Bolt instead.
 
Trouble I was having with acid bomb was that it 1; is an Area of effect thingy and 2; when I edited it so it did the damage and so on that I wanted, nothing happened to the unit I cast it on ingame... And I do mind ministun :(
I also tried death coil, but there was no way o remove the death coil impact graphic... not any I could detect anyway... Is it possible to remove?
 
For Acid Bomb, change the AOE to 0. It will target single unit. As for the damage part, set the primary damage and secondary damage to your desired value. Then set the damage interval to a very high value (300 is max). Finally, set the duration to, say. 0.1 second or something. It should work I think. It will only damage once.

Else you can use maths. If you want the damage to be 300. Then set the duration to 0.5 and the interval is set to 0.1. Then the primary and secondary damage are set to 60. (60*5 = 300)

Death Coil is hardcoded, so it's not suitable in most cases.
 
You'd have a much easier time constructing a trigger to deal with this (even a GUI one would do the trick!). I regularly get pissed off by hardcoded limitations of W3 spells (for instance, Stormbolt, which must have a mini-stun, since putting duration to 0 means perma-stun).

Anyway, my point is that it would take you half the time to put together a simple trigger to simulate your desired spell than messing with the editor (spending 2 hours in frustration trying to tweak spells is something I'm well aware of :D). Check around a bit, there are some sweet tuts by Daelin. :thup:

It's ridicolous that such a simple ability isn't hardcoded in the game already methinks...

    Or even third party. Like if you don't have an original one in a functional condition, you cannot play this game properly. Like yeah the keyboard mods exist, but I think those are BARELY functional

    And since almost all of my programming experience is with defunct shit now, I figure my best place is helping preserve legacy stuff. Which I don't know how to do necessarily, but I need some kind of a hobby and figuring out how older things worked is the only shit that really interests me. Well soldering and restoration is fun too, but no one is bringing me new stuff to fix and restore, so it's mostly old shit, and I LOVE OG Xbox so much. I want to make sure it can function as long as possible, until someone can effectively emulate it at least. I have like 15 I was going to fix over the winter and didn't get to.

    Yeah Tom, me too sorry for your loss buddy my mom told me she finds out her olds friend died from Google searching them. She had not talked to one of her old friends in a year and found out she died from Google. Also another one in the same session. RIP all of them my sincere condolences Tom

    We have some elderly guests that regularly come hang out at the bar at the end of the night, and every once in a while we don't see someone for a few weeks and then someone shows up with their obituary.

    So I decided to Google some people that I had not seen or heard from in a while and sure enough one of my old best friends, we had a falling out years ago but whatever, find out he died of Pancreatic Cancer in January. I have also lost a few of my closer acquaintances from growing up the last year. Getting old - people die - I kinda thought it was going to be this way a few years ago....
