Is it possible to detect when an attack projectile is fired? (after the attack animation is played and before it hits the target)

Event - A unit is attacked.

This event is triggered when a unit is just about to attack.

Thanks, but the problem with that one though is that it can be abused with the stop/attack bug and could make whatever I put in the actions happen a lot more than intended.

Is there an alternative way or non abusable way of doing so?

If you mean typical WC3 event, then there is no way, as far as I know.

If you want to prevent the abuse, you can use the unit is attacked event, and then store the attacking unit into a unit group for say, 0.5 seconds. And then remove it later. The trigger will then be conditioned so that any unit in the unit group will not trigger the actions.

Example:
E: Unit is attacked
C: Attacking unit is in UnitGroup Equal to False
A: Add Attacking unit to UnitGroup
---Wait 0.5 seconds
---Remove Attacking unit from UnitGroup
