Me and my brother are trying to play Warcraft III over LAN, and for some reason he is unable to join games I host, and I don't even see the ones hosts.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?
(Note: I'm on XP, he is on Vista, and we both have our firewalls off.)

Are you using any LAN programs? (e.g Hamachi)

I have the same problem. If someone could solve this, we'd both be grateful!

I found that I could play on LAN through trial and error, by inserting the disk into one computer, starting the game, then into the other, creating on one computer... etc, etc, etc. However, this was before the patch that removed the CD check.

have you tried LANing with different computers. it might be a computer problem. If its vista, have you tried to run as admin?

If the helper doesnt figure it out. It never hurts to ask the blizzard forums.

I had this problem before, all i had to do is make both computers, one at a time, join battlenet and download the latest patch, after that, update, and restart the game, it should work then

I checked and they both had the same patch.

Yeah, they had the same key.

I probably should have thought of that earlier....

Different CD keys? I think it cares about that.

ive been able to use the same game (just copy-pasted the entire wc3 folder) to 2 different computers and have a 3-way lan, with the same cd key, so i dont think that this is an issue

LAN games do not check the CD Keys, meaning you can play LAN games on multiple computers with the same Key.

The problem lies within your firewalls. You need to make sure you disable or port forward not only external firewalls (i.e. McAfee, Norton, etc.) and your native firewall located under Control Panel > Security > Windows Firewall.

ive found an easy work-around if both computers have wireless: create and ad-hoc network and then just join it with the other computer (yes this means you wont have internet while playing lan.. but you probably wont care)
