Leak Problem

Ok, I apparently got a major leak problem on a map that I've spent a LOT of time and effort in, so I would appreciate answers... (yes I have checked the forum  )

-When I try to test my map, it starts to load, but freezes on about 95% every time. (In WE it starts perfectly and I am not experiencing any problems at all.)

-There is a lot of triggers and custom models etc, but they have all worked before. I'm pretty sure its the triggers causing this problem though.

I am of course still trying to solve this on my own, but for the moment I'm completely clueless.
I know there is a lot of tutorials concerning troubleshooting leaks, and yes I will go though all my triggers in time :banghead:eek:mg... ;)

My question is: Can the "disable trigger" in the Trigger Editor prevent leaks based on triggers? Or do they still affect the map, enabled or disabled, in either case?

Usually you don't notice the leaks in the first minutes of the game (or you have a really big problem). I know some really leaky games which take about 30-40 minutes until you notice it and some 20 minutes more to kill Wc3 ^^.

When your game is freezing at 95% I can only thing of a trigger with the event Map Initialization. Try disabling every trigger with that event and test again. Maybe you've got a Map Init trigger with several hundret actions? I guess those can freeze your game pretty much.

Disabling triggers does.. well.. kinda help preventing leaks.
Leaks are only created through (GUI-)triggers and when you turn off all triggers (or simply never execute them) there obviously won't be any leaks.

If nothing helps you can post your map here for us to take a look. Actually seeing the problem is much easier than guessing a cause.

Thanks for the wise words, did help a lot :D
Yes, it was the map init that caused the freeze.

I guess its only hard work to fix all leaking GUI triggers then, because I will never be able to fully understand nor learn JASS anyway :shades:

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.

    Easily done

https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out

    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm

I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
