Map Loot System.

Hey Im making a map and I want it so that when a unit dies a chest apears where he was, the chest lasts 1 min, before disapearing. Clicking on the chest opens an inventory that you can loot items from, similiar to WoW but a bit different.

How would I got about this? The question betetr asked is how woul you guys attempt to do this? Im open to all ideas, even making the chest a unit and giving it an inventory and spawning random items... Im open to all ideas, but if its a crazy idea (sweet =D) give me a trigger or link.

Uhh do you want it to look like a chest or a gold coin?

Edit: BTW you might have to do something like Dark Invasion RPG did with all those multiboards

yes I would make the chest a unit with an inventory and use if/then/else conditions to determine what loot it can possible contain (ie. what items you create for the chest unit when it is created) depending on what type of mob was killed.

I'd give the chest unit a 60 second generic timer when it is created too, and it would be created for the player who dealt the killing blow.

If you want to make it so the chest is created for the player who aggroed the mob (ie. the first player to attack it) then you could do that by creating a trigger that when a unit attacks a unit set the custom value of the triggering unit to the player number of the owner of attacking unit, and then when the chest is created by killing the unit create it for player number (custom value of triggering unit).

If you want it available for every player then I think the simplest way (slightly flawed for obvious reasons) is to trigger it so when a player clicks on the chest unit it's control is changed to that of the clicking player.

Sounds good, murder has teh idea i had... how would i get it to spawn with items however? Trigger please.

I know its a double post, but it was posted yesterday, and rather than open a new post here it is. I got everything down except one thing. I dont know how to make an item apear in an inventory of the created unit, what trigger do i use for this?

I think you need to make the unit a hero and then go in actions give item to hero.

under Hero actions

make an item named e.g Chest make it spawn when a unit die with expiration timer 60secs
and create a dialog with items for unit that picks it up
e.g
Unit kills a creep
take the chest and
dialog shows up
______________

Good Idea but that wont let him see what the items look like and what they do.

then make trigger if he choose warriors sword show message
Increase 20 dmg etc...
and give dialog
Take item

I cant make a unit spawn with an inventory and then use triggers to place items in the spawned units inventory?

And no, I dont want a dialog.

Got it, made the unit a hero and gave him item :)

yea + rep maybe? =).


But you should remove the attack of the unit attack enabled None on the hero.

Looks bad if he can attack units coming close :D
