Map Preview Image Types?

Alright I know the tutorial about making a preview image, but does it have to be an uncompressed tga? cause that uses a bit of space :S

can I do it in blp? can I use a compressed tga? will those work?

I already tried blp but it doesnt work, do i have to use a different custom path other then war3mapPreview.tga?

.tga is supported, but uncompressed only.
Optionally as "palettized" image, assuming you actually manage to make one that doesn't crash.

With a .blp, the path has to end in .blp too.

The preview make doesn't have to be 256x256, 128x128 works too. But, of course, with less quality.

i am trying to make a preview image but i want to use something else besides an uncompressed tga, i can get that to work but it uses too much space
