Medieval total war game

If anyone reading this has played "Medieval II Total war" you'll know what i mean when I'm talking bout this. I'm trying to make a Warcraft 3 version of that game.

I'm thinking how to make the unit group the same, how would i increase numbers and strength of units and add them to that one unit group?

If you haven't played it, its a massive war game where you take over the world. And your troops are in bundles of groups. So it says 410 troops. 230 Swordsman and 180 Archers. Then make the unit strength so it wins or loses.
How would i make this happen?
I need to bundle units together in one unit and make it weaker or stronger depending on the units that are in it, then i need to be able to clash 2 groups of units together when having a war and which ever one is stronger wins.
Hope I'm making sense here.. I'm imagining loads of variables with this map. lol.

Blood Tournament has a similar setup to this.
May want to talk to the creator of that.
