Hi, I wanted an upgrade for my PC so (me being retarded with pc hardware) just bought a processor and graphics card within my budget that had good reviews, just received both tried to install but neither fit in my motherboard.

I bought: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003Z4PB3O/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
and http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004XANP0U/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01

I have now: HP Compaq dc7600 Small Form Factor with Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz and ATI Radeon HD 2400

Basically I would like to know what kind of motherboard i would have to buy to fit these 2 items on it, including my my old ones (minus old cpu/gpu) and if possible a case for it all, since i think the one im using may be a bit small? Ty in advance.

look for a AM3 or AM3+ motherboard with a pcie x16 slot for the graphics card - if you find a mATX board, it will most likely fit, but just look for an ATX case - not quite sure what your hard drive/dvd drive are, but they are most likely IDE, so look for an IDE header as well on your new motherboard

both motherboards have a pcie x16 slot, but no IDE header - you might have some difficulty finding a motherboard that has a IDE header as that is outdated technology, and the other parts are relatively new (the cpu and graphics card)

the case is probably OK, but it's hard to tell as amazon.uk doesn't give much as far as details go (I had to look up the motherboards on the asus website)

for the PSU, don't get that HP one - it's a non-standard size specific to HP desktop cases, look for an ATX one from a well-known brand (power pc & cooling, corsair, seasonic, antec, ocz, silverstone, etc.)

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.

https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out

    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
