Nationalism in the West has its roots in the 17 and 18th centuries, when people with similar language and... well... ethnicity began feeling a part of a whole. Nation states emerged then, for example England or France or Spain (which was an empire). Although, this was not everywhere, for example Germany and Italy were still made up of multiple small duchies, kingdoms, et cetera.

What Napoleon has to do with all this is that as he conquered Central and Eastern Europe, he spread nationalist ideas into Germans, Hungarians, Italians and so on. As a result, during the 19th century, there were powerful nationalist feelings in Europe. Germany and Italy became nation-states of their own, countries like Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria became independent of the Ottoman Empire and also became nation-states.

Because of this segregation of nationalities (but most importantly diplomatic issues and enthusiasm for war) World War I began and was fought so viciously.

And that's the main idea in short.

Also, through Europe, nationalism spread to the colonized peoples in places such as Asia or Africa. It was one of the things that led to the de-colonization, really, because the natives embraced the idea of Nationalism. When colonies like India or South Africa became sovereign, they were nation-states.

With nationalism comes foreigner hate -- With low education and earning (salary) citizens start to think their jobs will be over taken (easy jobs -- cleaning, digging ground, cutting grass, basic construction worker, etc) and accuse them in all other problems in society. Most of these problems though are not caused by foreigners.

Nationalism helps to preserve small countries culture, for example Estonian culture, where I am from.

Nationalism has bad reputation because of World War II, instead big countries use word Patriotism. Which is much the same, but does not have this "bad meaning" connected with it.

Looks like Google fixed whatever mistake that made the recipes on the site go crazy and we are no longer trending towards a recipe site lol - I don't care though because it motivated me to spend alot of time on the site improving it and at least now the content people are looking at is not stupid and embarrassing like it was when I first got back into this like 5 years ago.

Plus - I have a pretty bad ass recipe collection now! That section of the site is 10 thousand times better than it was before

They also were digging threw old shit at the sheriff's office and I tried to get them to give me the old electronic stuff, but they said no. They can't give it to people because they might use it to impersonate a cop or break into their network or some shit? idk but it was a shame to see them take a whole bunch of radios and shit to get shredded and landfilled

How come you're so into recipes lately? Never saw this much interest in this topic in the old days of TH.net
  • Monovertex Monovertex:
Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am not big on the recipes I am just promoting them - I use the site as a practice place promoting stuff

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.
  • The Helper The Helper:
You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences
