I originally started working on OVERTHROWN a looong time ago, and after having abandoned the project for various reasons (see here), and having deleted all the files and notes about the map, I have decided to revive and restart OVERTHROWN from scratch.

Basic Gameplay
You start off with an Emperor, a few buildings, and some peasants. Your peasants provide you with income when coupled with commercial buildings such as Casinos (which allow you to gamble your gold), Universities (where your Emperor can learn new skills), etc. Now, about the Emperor–if he dies, all your buildings and units will be given to the killing player. The great thing about it, though, is that you will gain SOME unit control with your new “master”, this way, you can continue playing even if you lose. Now, something about peasants: if you kill too many of your own in too short a time (yes, you will be able to, AND it will give you gold to do so ;)), or fail to provide them with adequate housing, a rebellion will ensue.

I've also got some pretty cool ideas planned, but will reveal them at a later time.

Currently in beta phase.

seems very interesting. so basically this is like the regicide type game from age of empires except you have to keep you people happy? this could be a good map if done right, but by the same token it could also be very bad.

good luck

Are you aware of what massive lag that may cause?

I tested a small battle between 2 players. Red vs blue. Each player has 2 catapults, 2 knights, 1 captain, 4 sorceresses, 12 archers, 24 footmen, 4 priests, and there was no lag at all :)

I had another map idea, which was unique and never before seen, but I decided to go with this one, even though there are similar things out there.

How much people are going to be able to play this? Cause 300 is the normal food limit and if each player has 500 which is almost the doubled...

Anyway seems nice and over thought, not just some crappy game that people make cause they don't know what to do.:p

That could work. I just hope that it won't be another of those "build twelve barracks, rallypoint set to enemy base and start klicking"-maps. Those are so boring to play, and so easy to win:rolleyes:

Sweet, sounds like a real-life conquering game. Love it! :D Ehem...

Are units going to be smaller than normal size? That way it looks like you are really controlling massive armies; or making the camera view backed up is the same. :)

Is there a way to detect assassins that are blended in perfectly? Like with your example? Or would you have to keep looking at your peasants to see which one is moving in a wierd/different way. :p

Anyway, good luck!

Off-Topic:
Boy, light you sure do have a lot of maps.

They will be normal size because I hate tiny litttle units :p

If an assassin is blended in perfectly, you can still tell it's a spy by selecting it. Or by ordering it to do something. It won't be able to because it won't be your unit.

I only have 2 maps!!! btw, where's that circle :D??? wanna make my terrain for this map??? :p

Maybe you could just reduce the collision size of units, so armies are easier to manoevre.

Also, are you planning to make some sort of regiment system?

If you want a battalion system I got one that I could not use in my map due to the amounts of units. But it maybee would be neat for this:)
It needs some finishing touches tho, I have not made abilites work for it yet.
The system is currently working with 20 units per battalion+one "battalionmanager" It is a circle of power that is shows how many units are left in that battalion, manages spells and is kind of the core of the battalion:)

I can change it to work with 5-10units per battalion and make it work even better if you want to try it?
20per battalion is really a lot, and the game engine won't be able to handle that lot of units:(

Edit: PM me if you are interested:D

@ Feedme

If you like stronghold, i've made a map about it, a real conversion, but not completely finished. Check out this link:

@Lightstalker

Instead of a squad system, you could also make some officer units, with abilities that for example order all units near the officer to attack move to target of ability, or for example that orders footman to defend, etc...

Oh, the circle! I forgot, lols. I'll get to work on it today... I think I'm gonna use a different style to make the circle this time so it looks more like a circle that a diamond...

Hm... terraining for this? Perhaps after the gameplay stuff is done and I'm finished up with some other things in my life. :D

That is not always a good thing. If you send all units it won't leave room for much tactics. If you send all units your back to massing again.
with that it is better to use the standard controls(ctrl+1).

Think of a cliff with a narrow passage in between.
If you put a couple of archers on the cliffs for example. and got units in the passage and waiting for an ambush, if you got the mass commands you can accidently send the archers with the units and screw up the whole ambush. Happened to me a couple of times:(View attachment 25205

That's 100 food, not 500. Add 5 times more units to each side, then try it. And throw in towers and stuff to, as those will probably be present.

Well I DID say it was a small battle... plus, you'll never have 500 food worth of soldiers as you'll have plenty of peasants and slaves too.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
