ZapIt GameWave Review: Canada's Exclusive "Game Console"

Released in 2005, this rather obscure game console, exclusive to Canada, aimed to be a DVD player/game console hybrid for playing games with the entire family. Most games ranged from basic puzzle games to trivia games & even some...biblical games? Overall, the GameWave was a massive flop with only about 70,000 units sold before being discontinued in 2009. While the console is pretty rare, prices second hand remain relatively reasonable (for the time being).

Did you ever hear about the GameWave? Was it a good idea? Do you think it'll become collectible in the future? What about possible homebrew?

All SNES enhancement chips and what they did | White_Pointer Gaming

The Super Nintendo was designed so that enhancement chips could be built into cartridges to boost functionality. The Super FX is the most famous of these, but what were all of the others, what exactly did they do and what games used them?

The Trash Computer That Became Your Phone

Journeying down the path of vintage tech and retro computers is a good time even when it’s full of twists and turns… which it always is. But what happens when you’ve got a proto-portable computer that fits in your pocket, that struggles to function, that runs into incompatibility issues at every stage, and that was made by a leather company who decided to get into the home electronics business? That’s the Tandy TRS-80 Pocket Computer, sold exclusively through Radio Shack. And there’s a reason why the portable TRS-80 and its desktop companion were dubbed the ‘Trash-80.’Charles Tandy built an empire so sprawling that the federal government had to break it up, and the TRS-80 line was one of his crowning achievements before his death. Everything was looking great for both Tandy and Radio Shack – but the TRS-80 Pocket Computer revealed the vulnerabilities of both businesses, the volatility of the hyper-evolving personal computer market, and the risks of market leadership in one of the most uncertain, unstable technological eras humanity has ever seen. The TRS-80 Pocket Computer was one of the earliest forerunners to Apple’s iPhone and to smartphones in pockets around the world. But it was also a cautionary tale for the entire tech industry… and it continues to serve as a warning for anyone interested in vintage computer restoration.

SNES Limit Pushers That Do The Impossible - Technical Deep Dive

The SNES, again. Nintendo's 16-bit giant had a lot of impressive games and I'm going to take a look at a few that really push the system and seems to make it do the impossible. Games that do things the SNES shouldn't be able to do.

This Console Would have Changed Gaming Forever - Konix Multisystem | Nostalgia Nerd

This is the type of game console that you hear as an urban legend, a myth. A tale told only by those who asked for a Konix Multisystem for Christmas 1989, but never received one. But this console did exist, and it was incredibly close to launch. The Konix Multisystem was such a novel and impressive games console that it actually could have changed gaming forever, had the Japanese not been so terrified of it. Join me, as we delve into the story of this unreleased, cancelled, forgotten console; The Konix Multi System.

In 1987 Mastertronic hatched a plan to create an Amiga 500 based arcade. After many years of hunting I've managed to find one, and in this series we'll restore it and tell the story of the Arcadia Super Select System.

Konix Multi-System (Prototype Footage)

Rare footage of the prototype console in action. A mixture of demo footage, games in progress, and developer interviews. The console never saw the light of day because Konix went bust before they had a chance to release it.

How the Sega Genesis / MegaDrive Worked

The Sega Mega Drive or Genesis if your in the US, holds a special place in many retro games hearts. It was the first console to really bring the arcade home and ushered in the 16 bit generation. But how did it produce those visuals? Join me as I attempt to explain how it all worked.

Why Was the Sega Saturn So Hard to Develop On

Deep dive into the Sega Saturn architecture discussing the different system elements and how they interact. Very interesting information on how developers coded for the Sega Saturn and the challenges they faced. This channel does this with with many retro consoles and I have found the videos to be very informative and interesting. Especially the Atari Jaguar one :)

Did Nintendo lie to us? Nintendo 64

Development of the Nintendo 64 began in 1993 in partnership with Silicon Graphics, using the codename Project Reality, then a test model and arcade platform called Ultra 64, but was its final design specifications anything close to what we were promised? Did Nintendo lie to us about the hardware? In this episode we take a closer look at one of the most interesting stories of game console development.

And since almost all of my programming experience is with defunct shit now, I figure my best place is helping preserve legacy stuff. Which I don't know how to do necessarily, but I need some kind of a hobby and figuring out how older things worked is the only shit that really interests me. Well soldering and restoration is fun too, but no one is bringing me new stuff to fix and restore, so it's mostly old shit, and I LOVE OG Xbox so much. I want to make sure it can function as long as possible, until someone can effectively emulate it at least. I have like 15 I was going to fix over the winter and didn't get to.

  • Varine Varine:
I also have a couple OG gameboys, but idk if I can do that without like, manufacturing new parts that no one makes anymore and I can't do that right now
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Currently in the middle of getting the probate process going. We're doing the informal probate process.

  • Varine Varine:
A probate is usually done with a will, yes? If so I am sorry for your loss

Yeah Tom, me too sorry for your loss buddy my mom told me she finds out her olds friend died from Google searching them. She had not talked to one of her old friends in a year and found out she died from Google. Also another one in the same session. RIP all of them my sincere condolences Tom

  • Varine Varine:
We have some elderly guests that regularly come hang out at the bar at the end of the night, and every once in a while we don't see someone for a few weeks and then someone shows up with their obituary.
  • Varine Varine:
We usually let them do their memorials there in the morning if they want to and I'll make them some snacks and drinks. There was one guy named Tom that came in like every night and would sit by himself and get a bunch of soup and a glass of wine. idk why but he LOVED our fucking soup, like he would order a fucking quart of it at a time and would always get so sad when we stop doing it for the summer.

  • Varine Varine:
But he also loved our calamari, which is another thing I hate but it sells super well so I can't change it. There was one day he came in and was asking me how to make it, because he tried to at home once in the off season when we stop running it and he really wanted it lol
  • Varine Varine:
I think he's one of the only people I've made recipes for for free because he really wanted a broccoli cheddar, and it was like dude I don't have a recipe, it's just whatever I have, but here, this is how you do it
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think he ever figured out how to do the calamari in a pan though, like idk how to do that either. He was afraid of the at home deep fryers though and it's like yeah, that's fair, I am too
  • Varine Varine:
He was just such a sweet old man, we had two servers pregnant and they held a baby shower together, he was soooooo fucking excited to get to see a baby. Unfortunately he died a month or so before they were born
  • The Helper The Helper:
So I decided to Google some people that I had not seen or heard from in a while and sure enough one of my old best friends, we had a falling out years ago but whatever, find out he died of Pancreatic Cancer in January. I have also lost a few of my closer acquaintances from growing up the last year. Getting old - people die - I kinda thought it was going to be this way a few years ago....

    Forum running super slow again
  • Ghan Ghan:
Not really clear from the stats as to what is causing the slowness.
  • Ghan Ghan:
We get a lot of guest traffic so it may just be the load is getting too high and not from any particular source.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Looks like the server is maxed out on CPU.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Oh it looks like a lot of the traffic is Silkroad Forums. That domain isn't protected by Cloudflare.
  • Ghan Ghan:
But the old Silkroad site is still on its own server. I just had a test site set up on this server for it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I just disabled that test site. Let's see if that helps the load.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Looks much better already.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I had actually forgot about the Silkroad site. I had asked
  • The Helper The Helper:
SD Ryoko about it and he said the couple of people left on there really like it, that was a few years ago, maybe I should check back
