Hi!:)
Yes, I'm going to design, soon, a unique AoS map based on the anime Rurouni Kenshin. This sounds cool. The main reason is that there has been no existing map based on Rurouni Kenshin, just a simple RPG in EpicWar, I saw one kind. But it is an AoS that I'm going to create.

For now, I will only work on the plans for this map. There needs to be more time for my other maps, studies, and future episodes of Rurouni Kenshin, before I embark on this difficult quest for the great game.

Okay folks, this is gonna be a bit weird but in the end this AoS will make it. Grab some potato chips and a soda, go home, browse the web and go read this page..

Map Concepts (these will definitely change without prior notice)
Recently, I was messing up with Yahoo's search tool, and afterwards I have stumbled upon a web page in Mindflare.com about a set of unique but almost unused and unconventional ideas for an AoS map. It turned out that these ideas were indeed the most compatible for my map. I don't have better ideas for a 'unique' AoS map.

In short, the typical AoS is basically just a glorified hero team arena.

I believe this is right. Like the author, I also like maps with a lot of strategic depth (that's why I really like RTS games), alas, the kind of map that most conventional Wc3 players loathe to this day, especially to my fellow pinoys.

But I'm not going to use all of the ideas, nor use all the details of one idea from that page, 'cause I don't like some of them, and some of the details, that's when the plan's configuration starts.

Along with that, other concepts of the map of course:
-- Emphasis is more on territorial control, strategic assaults and battles between small armies.
-- The map (or the first official release) will incorporate 14 characters, 7 on each team. One team will include the protagonists in the anime (e.g. Kenshin) while the other team will include the antagonists in the anime (e.g. Shishio).
-- Custom models for each character. Low-poly and skin quality decent enough, to save map size. I will be looking for a modeler who can make models, or at least, modify existing Wc3 models and turn them into Rurouni Kenshin figures.
-- A variety of items and recipes. They are not actually items but are Runes which work like items. The only 'real' items in the game are the Armor and Potions/Charged items since all characters possess a real weapon (it depends whether I'll work with a modeller or not) and the Runes are like weapons that possess powerful attributes.
-- Shrines (like in Diablo) that give temporary effects or bonuses to any Hero that comes near.
-- These make up the tip of the iceberg that is very large, meaning there are more stuff that I'll have to think about and reconsider. Map Name is still pending of course.

Now that you've eaten all of your potato chips and drank all the soda, I guess it's time to go our separate ways. I will make the map, but I'll expect setbacks and all the problem stuff experienced in map-making. I'm always ready.

Now your turn, before you leave, have you found this idea an interesting one or just piece of trash?

the concept of limiting yourself to an IDEA "A Rurouni Kenshin Based" is good.

Reverse Edge Blade Spell should do a disable effect.. just like in the anime xD.

hm well it sounds as you are assiduous to make a good map. and the idea does sound got. (i havent seen the anime but still)

but your post itself doesnt offer much information about your map. maybe because you havent even started but still you could try to tell us those unique features you said you are gonna implement.
give us some eye candy while we are waiting and i ll do my best to give you a usefull reply and suggestions for your game.

Hmmm, other than an anime, what exactly is Rurouni Kenshin (i.e. what's it about, in a few words)? Would be nice to have some idea of what you're basing this on (since an anime could correspond to a 100 different animes :p)

The idea of basing the terrain on Japanese environments/forests sounds like a neat idea, I'd like to see how that turns out

Maybe print vJass manual and you will learn vJass in no time :) Finishing map is hard task, I hope your project goes well. Which custom models do you need (pictures of character(s) would be nice)?

I still dont get it. Why people seem to believe that vJass is something "really hard to learn"? The whole point of vJass is tho make Jassing easier.

Thanks, but, I'm still new to Jass and that's why I take home studies to increase my level of proficiency. I only use regular World Editor and not Jass new gen, 'cause of some complications while installing. Nevertheless, people are free to decide which scripts they want to code. The important thing is maintaining leakless, efficient and functional scripts. It's ok. I will tackle usage of Tables and dynamic effects for spells soon.

Try to play Samurai Legends by nooK. This will give you an idea of what it feels to play the map or what it will be. I don't intentionally base my map on Samurai Legends and my plans are a world apart anyway. There are more things better than just an AoS with special features.

For the custom models:

There are two sides in the map where players can come in and fight with against their opponents.

Heroes (1st team, team name pending)

Kenshin Himura
Aoshi Shinomori
Sanosuke Sagara
Kaoru Kamiya

Only three heroes are needed. I need to watch the anime further to decide which heroes I'm going to choose for this map.

I'm still planning on which villains can be included in the game. There are a lot out there. But surely the following will be a part of the other team.

I will try to search for more cool ideas instead of requesting for ideas, and formulate my own ideas for the uniqueness of the AoS map.

I suggest you use NewGen, even if you're learning Jass.
The Syntax highlighting is really helpful and the global blocks, as well as scopes make coding very easy.

They're not very difficult to use either. I learned how to use both of them in about 20 seconds. Literally.

i got hooked on the anime few months ago...
i watched the season where he was fighting against the mummy guy with his gang.

EDIT:

i've read the villains part, here are some ideasL

for shishio:
use his flame blade from the anime.

for seta:
use his shukuchi technique, the one where he runs super fast.

Here are some techniques Shishio uses. I don't know the name of the third one but he has 3 special techniques, which in turn will be his spells on the map.

Kaguzuchi - The user scraps his sword's tip on his scabbard, igniting a tornado of fire around his sword.
Homura Dama - The user scrapes a solid object (the ground) with his sword, igniting a powerful fire.
His third technique -The user grabs his opponent and creates a powerful explosion by scraping/scratching his sword w/ his gloves which are filled with gunpowder. The victim is thrown off.


This is one of my source for the characters' fighting techniques.

The anime is cool and I personally like it better than Naruto. Think of Rurouni Kenshin as the 'samurai' equivalent of Naruto, a ninja-based anime.

I wish I could contact Black Stan, his models are freakin awesome, don't have his email though, maybe there could be better model editors down there.

This technique you're referring to is named Guren Kaina.

Also, I have all [I think] of Black-Stans models in a single map. Nothing else on it. I could send you it if you want. It even has that awesome archer :D

    I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work

    Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm

    So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man

And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.

    Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
