Unit Group Problem

Im having problems with trying to place a spell on every unit in a unit group. Heres the trigger:

Trigger:
  • Spectral Phantasm Silence
    • Events
      • Unit - A unit Starts the effect of an ability
    • Conditions
      • (Ability being cast) Equal to Item Silence (WORD)
    • Actions
      • Set LocalPoint = (Target point of ability being cast)
      • Set Temp_Group = (Units within 250.00 of (LocalPoint offset by (0.00, 0.00)))
      • Unit Group - Pick every unit in Temp_Group and do (Actions)
        • Loop - Actions
          • Unit - Create 1 Dummy Doom for (Owner of (Casting unit)) at (Position of (Picked unit)) facing Default building facing degrees
          • Unit - Add a 0.50 second Generic expiration timer to (Last created unit)
          • Unit - Order (Last created unit) to Neutral Pit Lord - Doom (Picked unit)
          • Game - Display to (All players) the text: cycle
      • Custom script: call DestroyGroup( udg_Temp_Group)
      • Custom script: call RemoveLocation (udg_LocalPoint)


Basically, when I cast my spell, which happens to be an aoe based on Silence, I want the units in that aoe to have doom placed on them. What happens is that the trigger fires for all the units in the group (determined by the text "cycle") but only 1 unit ends up getting doomed. I'm thinking either the dummy units all decide to doom 1 unit for some reason, or theres something preventing the other units from being doomed as well. Does anyone have an idea?

Try giving them a longer duration...
Otherwise it looks good (Besides the leak in the Unit-Group loop :()
And what are you doing here ?!

  • Set Temp_Group = (Units within 250.00 of (LocalPoint offset by (0.00, 0.00)))


Just use "LocalPoint" there instead ;)

I changed the duration to 2 seconds and it is still happening.

Try giving them a longer duration...
Otherwise it looks good (Besides the leak in the Unit-Group loop :()

Oh yea...lol.

Also...where is the leak :confused:. I thought i removed Temp_Group.

That's the leak I meant :p

Try, just to be on the safe side, to add the ability through the trigger too ;)

Lol I see. Anyways, I did as you said and still nothing. I did some more testing and decided to give my dummy unit a model to see what it was doing. It turns out, only 1 dummy unit is being created...strange. Anyways i'm still trying to see why. Are there are reasons outside triggers could affect this one?

To be honest, I don't really see anything in your trigger that would cause the error you describe. It might be a problem with the dummy unit itself or another trigger interfering with the trigger question, which is difficult to say without further information.

I know, this is the strangest thing I've encountered. I tested each trigger line by line and isolated the problem. Current trigger:

      • Set LocalPoint = (Target point of ability being cast)
      • Set Temp_Group = (Units within 250.00 of LocalPoint)
      • Unit Group - Pick every unit in Temp_Group and do (Actions)

          • Set LocalPoint2 = (Position of (Picked unit))
          • Unit - Create 1 Dummy Doom for (Owner of (Casting unit)) at LocalPoint2 facing Default building facing degrees
          • Unit - Add a 5.00 second Generic expiration timer to (Last created unit)
          • Unit - Order (Last created unit) to Neutral Pit Lord - Doom (Picked unit)
          • Custom script: call RemoveLocation (udg_LocalPoint2)
      • Custom script: call DestroyGroup( udg_Temp_Group)
      • Custom script: call RemoveLocation (udg_LocalPoint)


All of it works as its supposed to until I add the line:

Unit - Order (Last created unit) to Neutral Pit Lord - Doom (Picked unit)

I've tried changing the spell and dummy unit to another spell and dummy unit thats proven to work and it ends up the same. Ugh....

Edit: I also narrowed down the fields in each line. It seems that when the dummy units are given an order to cast a spell on the picked unit the trigger malfunctions. I've done:
-Make dummy units do a non-spell action on the picked unit, works fine
-Make dummy units cast a spell on a non-picked unit, works fine

make sure the dummy has enough mana to cast it on everybody
make sure the dummy abilty has 0 cooldown

Try copying your trigger and ability data to a new map and re-test to see if the issue persists. If it does, upload the test map to a post and I'll have a look at it. If it doesn't, the problem is definitely amongst your other triggers.

i believe is this line problem >> Unit - Order (Last created unit) to Neutral Pit Lord - Doom (Picked unit)

this action is working fine if no other enemy is created after your dummy. So the solution is set variable to your dummy and order the variable to do action. See below

Unit - Create 1 Dummy Doom for (Owner of (Casting unit)) at LocalPoint2 facing Default building facing degrees
Set Dummy123 = Last created unit
Order Dummy123 to Neutral Pit Lord - Doom (Picked unit)
