AMERICA has told Britain that it can “kidnap” British citizens if they are wanted for crimes in the United States.

A senior lawyer for the American government has told the Court of Appeal in London that kidnapping foreign citizens is permissible under American law because the US Supreme Court has sanctioned it.

The admission will alarm the British business community after the case of the so-called NatWest Three, bankers who were extradited to America on fraud charges. More than a dozen other British executives, including senior managers at British Airways and BAE Systems, are under investigation by the US authorities and could face criminal charges in America.

Until now it was commonly assumed that US law permitted kidnapping only in the “extraordinary rendition” of terrorist suspects.

With the crap we pull internationally I don't doubt it. The American people don't have a clue what our government is doing overseas so don't think our foreign policy reflects the belief of the American Public. Sorry that our government is a bunch of assholes.

It's too bad. We've become like every other super power nation, and we'll fall like them too. Just hope it won't be in our life time.

Ninva is right
Roman Empire, French Empire, the Soviet Union are only a few examples. Its only a matter of time really.
Anyway if they did do problems in the US it should be allow that were allow to arrest them...
same if a person did trouble in the UK and came to the US

But they're talking about kidnapping. As in agents coming in and taking that person away without a word to the that nation's government. That's how I see it.

Wow! "WE CAN STEAL YOUR PEOPLE BC OUR LAWS SAY WE CAN AND YOU LAWS DON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT! =P"

Indeed, but this time we don't need a hunnic invasion. Their own arrogance/stupid laws are doing the work for us now.

It's how we roll, applying our laws to countries, that, well don't agree with our laws :D

Just.. What the omg BBQ rofl? This is one of the more stupid things I ever heard.

This is why after I graduate from college I'm moving to Canada. ;) I don't want to be nuked by all the other countries in the world.

I would join you, but if I want to get anywhere in what I do I'll have to stay in the States. I'll die sooner anyways; life is hell.

America's asking for it now. Slowly but surely Dubya's trying to take over the world, turn it into a Big Brother world.

Still, at least they aren't pussyfooting about, Political Correctness here would prevent any extraditions anyway...
I can think of several cases in the past where this would have actually been a good thing.

On the other hand, Dubya's regime cannot be trusted with something like this. They already think they have the right to police the world. Some day, they will regret it.

Oh my, just when I thought Bush's goverment did all the damage it could possibly do. I always thought there were some kind of "global rules", but either no one really notices them, or they were made only to hurt the countries that the U.S. don't care for.

Call me old fashioned, but I thought it was customary to give special treatment to close allies, not punishment.

Geez people, you clearly forgot, America's the world police, so don't we have a right to police the world? Seriously, all this talk of respecting sovereignity and leadership of other nations... FUCK THAT SHIT! :p

hhmmm, no, overall the U.S. is going well - With the war in Iraq going better, a pro-U.S. French President (how the hell did that happen xD), and a new leader (most likely Democratic unless theres a sudden victory in Iraq). Maybe we'll get something done in government. Maybe the economy will get better.

On the kidnapping thing, the U.S. government really can do whatever it wants. Its too big of an ally for Briton to strain relations with and its not like the UN can sanction us (even if they could, we would just ignore them like Iran is doing now) Its not right, but thats how it works. Fun to be the worlds only super power isnt it?

WolSHaman coming in with a mass amount of sarcasm fro mthe left >.>

And me with seriousnessness fro mthe right.

I live in Canada, althoghu that does not mean I get away from the bull$417 that our underlings (heheh I made a joke =D) do in the world. Right now our up the @$$ prime minister I swear to god has got 2 be bushes gay lover...

Sooner or later I will move to Britain, or Germany, one of those two, and I will be happy and I will start a new life. However the only true way to be free of the crap in the world is to no logner be in the world...

MASS SUICIDE FOR ALL XD

The US thinks they control the world, and it utterly pisses me off. I mean hell, Canadians go around showing off how much better beer we got and how we got free health care n shit but at least we don't go stick trillions of dolalrs worth of fire arms in peoples faces...

In my perfect world, there is no gun powder...I wonder what the US would be like if my world was reality....

If you still have aches and pains from 9/11, do not read this
In my own personal opinion, and that of my dad too for that matter, 9/11 was orchestrated by the US government. Yes I know it sounds horrible to say such things but that is my opinion. The government had thousands of dollars of old weaponry to get rid of, and what better way to get rid of it than to start a war? I stopped the US economy from collapsing none the less, but either way this is my opinion, please do not start flaming the thread because I said this.

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done
    +1
  • The Helper The Helper:
https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/

    What do you think Tom?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
I will have to get used to this.
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
The latest news feed looks good
  • The Helper The Helper:
I would like to see it again like Ghan had it the first time with pagination though - without the pagination that view will not work but with pagination it just might...
