Windows 7 just came out on my birthday, and I checked Dell store and it had two types of Windows 7 things:

Windows 7 Home Premium - Upgrade
Windows 7 Home Premium

So my question is: Which do I pick one of these to upgrade my XP to W7? Also, what system reqs do you recommend before upgrading?

If you have a legit XP key, I believe you can upgrade.

If you don't, you have to get a fresh copy.

However, as far as the installation process, I'd recommend doing a fresh install after saving all your important stuff to DVDs/external hard drive/2ndary hard drive/flash media.

The recommended system requirements are the same as XP I think.

btw, I think it's much cheaper at newegg than dell.

No, I have the Windows XP and I wanted it to be upgraded to W7. So which do I buy: The "upgrade" one or the one without "upgrade"?

Upgrade is fine if you already have XP on the computer (or a retail copy of XP, which can be moved around to a new PC)

You will have to do a full reinstall though (preferably with a format), but the upgrade CD will let you do it.

So all I do is to order W7 Premium Upgrade so I can upgrade my XP?

Copy them to whichever of the above you choose.

also note that you will need to reinstall all your programs, so i would recommend running this first, it helps you organize what programs you use and installs them after the upgrade
