Intro to Philosophy

I figure that if I get my associates instead of going straight for a bachelors, I can get a not so shitty job in a cubicle (rather than flipping patties) while I work to get that bachelors, and not live the next 20 years in college debt. That's why I'm taking Philosophy and Tai Chi. Structural engineering by the way.

Here in Switzerland we can't really choose our own subjects :<

I'm wondering, what do you do in some of the classes?

Psychology. Can't really imagine what you do there :/
Study hall. Is that just an hour to learn by yourself?
PE. Yeah, we have something similar. But I still wonder what you do there. Play sports? Or also the boring stuff (athletics)?
Logical thinking. ???

I'm actually from Austria, so our system is probably pretty much the same. My school is an exception though.
All schools here have psychology/philosophy for 2 years though. You learn about philosophical concepts, such as cosmopolitanism, nihilism, utilitarianism and famous representatives. Also, you learn about people like Sigmund Freud and their most important essays. Theres also quite a bit of discussion involved, which is the part I like :)

Psychology is the study of the behavior of the individual. Its "companion" area of study is sociology (the study of group behavior). Logic(al Thinking) is the study of deductive inference and correct reasoning.

Erm, yeah, I kinda understand that.
But what do you do in class?

It's quite a broad range of study :p. What do you do in math? Study math. In psychology, you study theories, ideas, concepts about the human mind. You study the whys and hows of human behavior: Why do certain people develop certain interests or attractions? How does someone make a decision? These are questions psychology asks.

My brother majored in psychology in college.. in fact its the second most popular major at American colleges and universities.

Here you are a bit limited on the variation. There are different profiles, but you cannot change the classes within the profile.

In my Senior year I will be taking:

Mathematics - Analysis
Romanian Language and Literature
Biology
Chemistry
Physics - I am not sure what chapter we are going to study
General Geography
General (or Romanian, not sure) History
English
French
Informatics
Philosophy
Physical Education
Religious Education ( >.> )

I can't remember any other, guess these are all of them. Everything goes into a 5 days a week, 6-7 hours a day schedule =].

If you don't know what IB is, here's Urban Dictionarys response:
IB: A program created in an attempt to control the minds of the youths of the future, implemented by Swiss lawn gnomes, by preventing their exposure to the outside world.

The state goals of the program are to provide students with an education rounded out accross five program areas ("groups") - including Language 1, Language 2, Social Sciences, Science, Math, and Art/Option. Additional elements of the program include CAS (a system used to force students out of the house once in a while), ToK (philosophy) and Extended Essay.

In an attempt to shove too much information down the throats of students, the program ends up significantly improving the core skill required to succeed in IB: Bullshit. The phrase I.B. therefore I B.S. comes from this.

  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
