Blizzard doesn't care about Mac users?

Just wondering if Blizzard is ever going to fix the script checking bug with macs. I had been working on several maps and ever since .24 came out have had to abandon them, as I cannot save them. Is blizzard aware of this issue? If so, have they just decided that the Mac users aren't worth their time?

The editor on a mac works just fine, there are a couple of issues with a mac where things works differently on a Mac then a Windows machine.
But those issues would probably not apply to you since you're probably a GUI user.

If you experience compilation errors it's probably some sort of issue with your currently installed software. Nothing to do with the editor itself.

Actually, no, since update 1.24 they left something out of WE that should have been there, so there are a lot of (possibly hundreds or thousands or even more) unrecognized functions that won't compile any time you try to save any map.

Blizzard will fix this issue I'm sure. Unless they did it intentionally to push away mac users! naa.

"The editor on a mac works just fine,"

Err, I own a MAC and PCs. WC3, and mostly the World Editor run *horrendously* on it. The Editor crashes horrendously, all the time.

When did you update? are you using TFT? did you do an upgrade or a full patch?

Otherwise, I don't know - I do know a few people have had this problem though.

not necessarily mac users, but the world editor was provided "as is", without support

also most games dont even run on a mac, wc3 still runs fine on a mac, it's just the editor, so you shouldn't be complaining too much, instead try dual-booting or something along those lines

that being said, i do believe that blizzard will make a patch to fix the world editor on a mac, but until then go to what Tru_Power22 posted

Wrong.
Then tell me, how am I able to create ... a map on my Mac with the latest update installed?
Good question...unless you applied the fix I described in the link Tru_Power22 posted, and forgot about it.

it's just the editor, so you shouldn't be complaining too much
*facepalm*

Questions about your fix:

So I just take that scripts folder, and pop it into my Warcraft III folder? Is there a way to get that folder from a Blizzard site? (Nothing personal, but I dont exactly trust some random file from mediafire)

If I followed through with your fix, how would I undo it? (I always need a back-out plan before I do stuff like that). Is it as simple as I am thinking it is? (Just moving the scripts folder to the trash)

Would the new maps I make with the .23 scripts still be playable in Warcraft .24? Didn't they make it so that old maps wouldn't work with .24?

Yep.

I completely understand. :) I described in that post how I got that folder - if you still have a copy of the War3Patch.mpq file from version 1.23, you can uncompress it using MPQ Extractor and find the Scripts folder in it.

If you don't still have War3Patch.mpq from 1.23, I'm not sure how you could go about getting it.

Yes.

They work fine, assuming you don't use any of the JASS code that was fixed/disabled in 1.24 (global/local variable shadowing, return bug). Only old maps using JASS code that is incompatible with 1.24 don't work.

One more note, in case you didn't see it in the other post - the new features in 1.24 (eg. hashtables) will still appear in the World Editor's menus, but you won't be able to save a map that uses them.

How big is your War3Patch.mpq file (mine's 29MB)? Maybe using the download installer just puts it in War3x.mpq instead of making a patch file? I dunno, 'cause it was in mine.

Sadly, they won't.
After the release of 1.24b I sent a mail to the Blizz Support:
Blizzard did not develop the editor and does not support it. We paid royalties to include it in our games, but we didn't create it. It was created by a 3rd party which has since gone out of business.
So I bet, they will not fix anything related to the WE for mac.

I dunno what to say. :( Strange that unpacking War3Patch.mpq gave you an empty folder. Try War3x.mpq and see what happens...

I got the same reply before 1.24 when I asked why the Mac WE was behind the Windows version. I guess it's a default/automatic reply...so who knows whether it's accurate or not. It'd be interesting if a support inquiry regarding Windows WE got the same reply...

 I didn't know it was developed by a 3rd party. But then why were there changes to it in .24b?

YES! It worked! Thanks so much for all your help. (+rep of course)
