Go to start > search and type in paint. If it doesn't show up you don't have it.

Huh.. Not sure where you can download it. It might only be download-able if you are willing to pay for it.

If you really want it horribly bad, and you don't want to pay for it, you might have to reinstall your operating system. Or maybe you can explore the CD (If it came in one.) and see if paint is on it.

I'm not sure but reinstalling your OS sounds very drastic. Hmm.. I might have to research this some.

EDIT: Found this.

You could open your "control panel" click on "Add/Remove Programs" go to the "Windows Setup" tab. Once you get that far you can re-install Paint, you'll find it under "Accesories"

Might work for you. Also found this on same site.

You can simply follow these steps.........
-plug in your usb flash drive to any computer which is running
Windows Xp.
-go to My Computer > Local Disk C: > WINDOWS > system32 You will find a little icon with the name
"mspaint"
-simply use copy and paste technic to copy the file "mspaint from system32 and paste it to your usb drive.
-plug in your usb flash to your pc or notebook which has lost the ms paint software and again simply copy "mspaint" from your usb drive to your computer's "system32"
-you may creat shortcut from there to your desktop.
Good Luck

I don't know why you would use paint though. The GIMP is free and a much, much, much better image editing program. Here is a link to download it.

go to start > run > mspaint

Most Microsoft programs replace themselves when they get deleted (like Internet Explorer), but the shortcuts are another story

I had this problem with notepad before. I think I just downloaded it but I only looked for the shortcut. I didn't know about system32 or anything.

If the start > run does work, then you can make a shortcut by right-clicking on your desktop, new > shortcut, MANUALLY copy paste this as the shortcut (Don't hit browse) C:\WINDOWS\system32\mspaint.exe

Hit ok, type paint... etc... drag and drop it back into your start menu

If it did get deleted, you can download this copy from my website Here
( http://67.171.223.140/files/mspaint.exe )

Let me know when you download it so I can delete it.

Did you merely move/delete the shortcut or the executable?

Official "recovery" procedure: use the control panel to reinstall MS Paint:

Start
> Settings
> Control Panel
> Add/Remove Programs
> Add/Remove Windows Components (in the left bar) [*]
> select "Accessories and Utilities" and click "Details..."
> select "Accessories" and click "Details..."
> check/uncheck "Paint" (to either uninstall it first and add it back using the same procedure)
> OK, OK, next, ...

If you had to uninstall it, restart at [*]. This doesn't involve downloading binaries from third parties, which may be incompatible or loaded with additional and unwanted "features".
