I don't know about you but there are some custom games that drive me insane! Most wouldn't even be that horrible if they just did a few things differently.
Some of my pet peeves are:
1) Hero Arenas/AoS maps that use non-triggered/slightly modified spells.
Not all maps need totally custom spells. I map that I'm making (It's a small side project that is unit oriented), I wanted the spells the heroes had to blend with the map better, so I modified the art and tool tips. But, when you have 40 heroes in a map and most of them have no triggered spells. It plays like an unbalanced game of Warcraft, rather than a unique hero arena.
2) Music/Stupid Sounds
I hate this so much, it's not even funny. A crappy map is still crappy even if you had the entire "Moving Pictures" album in it. All it does is annoy people because they need to download for 15 minutes just to find out that it is total garbage. While I admit you can put sounds in a game to enhance it, to many is just redundant.
3) Using custom models to cover up stupid crap.
This is similar to number two, but putting models in a map is just as bad as the music. Again I say, if there really is no model that fits, this can be good. But in a map where you have 10 heroes (all of them fantasy based) you don't really need to import custom models. Anyone ever heard the saying "You can't polish a turd"?
4) Map's with a million player controlled units.
Another project I have does indeed have a lot of units, but they are computer controlled. So they automatically go to the fray, and therefore quickly die. But when you give people control over the same units, most idiots will let them sit there and mass, until the Warcraft engine gives them a big middle finger and slows right down. (Seriously play "Evolves" that is a perfect example of what I'm talking about).
5) Imbalance
Ok, balancing is HARD. If you have ever tried to make a map you know that. So minor imbalance is really not that bad. As most people can play their way through that if their good enough. But there are sometimes where this gets ridiculous. Winter-Maul is a good example. What is by far the best race? Crystal, seeing as it's one of the few races that can actually kill the first air. Plus it's second tower can get you through about half of the damn game. Now I'm not saying the game is bad, but with only one race (in my eyes) being effective early and late game, what's the point of having other races.
6) "Better than DotA"
How many times have you seen a map get hosted that has said EOTWOGITOWTA - Better than DotA!, or whatever stupid acronym the host decided to use (god forbid "Join Quick - Better than DotA"). If it really was better than DotA, why are you the only one hosting your map? Now I'm not saying DotA is perfect, nor am I saying it's the best map, or even a great map. But you can't argue that it is by far the most hosted one. Back on my point, if it's greater than DotA why do you need to compare your map to it to get people to join. Try making an original game, then you won't need a stupid gimmick like that to get people to join.
7) Retarded/False/Advertising in games names
Just a quick one, that isn't to do so much with the custom game as the person hosting it. Is it really necessary to advertise free porn or your your crappy website in game names? No. It's also it's entirely pointless to beg for Cd keys and Diablo II accounts (no joke, I've seen morons do this).
Yeah, I have more but I can't think of them right now.
So anyways I'm asking you guys what are some of your pet peeves?
