Its IRC. I use the java based interface on a page on this site but you can use MIRC or any other IRC client. The chat is hooked up to the forum somehow so you have to be a forum member to chat. Since it is IRC based the interface would be dependent on how you connect but I like the java based one - nothing extra to download.

Chat is open to all "Special Members". You have to register your forum name and password the first time you go into the chat and register your password everytime you go into chat. If you use the web based chat page the instructions on how to do that are at the bottom.

Here is the web based Java client

irc://irc.thehelper.net:6667/thehelper

Any IRC client will do (mIRC, ChatZilla, xchat, ...)

To be able to talk at all, you must register with your forum name.
You may use any nick that is not registered yet.
Though your forum name is probably best.

Once connected:
/nickserv register www.thehelper.net <member name here>

Should that work, you may, from then on, identify as that member with:
/nickserv identify <forum password>

In the unlikely event that would actually work, you may chat at will.

Where "at will" means the channel "#thehelper".
