That's my problem! I can't get a good shine on fire, otherwise it looks too smooth.

EDIT: Example...

How does everyone make fire so good!?

I could post you a 1 minute tutorial if you want :p
Atleast if you are using photoshop.

Here ya go:

Making simple fire in photoshop.

Make a new document, about 400x400px, Black background.
Reset your colors (ctrl+D) and go to: Filter - Render - Clouds.
After that go to Filter - Render - Difference Clouds, and repeat the difference clouds a few times. (ctrl+F)
tut11ag.png

After that take the Brush tool and fill some of the top with black color, so that it looks like the fire ends (looks better if it goes op a bit in the middle ;)
tut27ba.png

The go to Filter - Liquify using a size 15 brush, with 50-60 density, 100 brush pressure. Fix it and make it look more "firey".
tut36ne.png

And last: Go to Image - Adjustments - Gradient Map. It should look like this:

Good Luck

Try using smudge for fire, by the way I think I finally made an OK fire ( :p ).

There's also selection tools and you can select a square, and then cut off that part of selection to make a shield.

Also, here's my acually OK fire (never saw that coming did you! :p )...

I didn't think I could make fire that good...

EDIT: I'd like the tutorial, even if I don't use photoshop. It would help others too. The GIMP has almost all the filters and add-ons that photoshop has, It just doesn't have all of em.

EDIT: I dont my other formats too, as long as I can open them;) But if Smith wants tga or blp, you can make them for him. Hope the smith doesnt get too angry with me about this:D

I want them in those formats cuz it's easier to convert them to blp. (as i know, TGA and JPG are the only ones which can be converted into blp's)

Yeah, I forgot about the bmp. BTW, any icon you put here does not count in the contest.

BTW, nice tut, Jo_O. But I preffer to make the fire manually, using lots of layers. The result looks more real. The way you used there gives you a too "computerized" fire. :p
