It's a common problem when the imported textures for the model have been given incorrect paths. If you link me to the model I can help you figure out what paths to use.

do what I rule said, follow the import paths on that page. Then once you import a model you need to assign it to a unit that wants to use it and then save and close the world editor. Next time you open the map the imports will load.

Make sure you save a version of your map before you import and then save that as a different version.... some models can be corrupt and prevent you from ever opening your map again if it doesn't work.

Hmmm... seems like when I import .mdx file the editor won't recognize it. It searches for .mdl file. How can I fix that?

Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner.

Here's what you do:
  • Open the Import Manager
  • Import YoungLinkNew2.mdx
  • Import Combined.blp
  • Change Combined.blp's path from war3mapImported\Combined.blp to Combined.blp
  • Save map
  • Restart the World Editor
  • Open the Object Editor
  • Change the model of any unit to YoungLinkNew2.mdl

I attached a map for you so you can be sure the model actually works.

Side note for eXirrah: It is supposed to search for the .mdl. all .mdx files are converted to .mdl in the map itself.

It'll be faster if you check why isn't it working....

EDIT: I tryed anything that came to my mind. saved and exited the map each time but ... there must be something i'm missing

EDIT2: Seems like now editor doesn't say that it can't find the file but create a black box instead.

EDIT3: Sorry bout the many EDITs but i'm a bit edgy already cause I try to do this for 4 hours, and it's 10a.m. here so I guess you'll understand.
My thought are: could it be I messed up the alpha on the skin file so that the black box appear instead of my model

EDIT4: I managed to finally import it correctly.... Thought the effect is not I recuired...

Thanks anyway

Reading your 4th edit, it looks like you figured it out. However, your attached map does not show that.

In case you still get that black box, it's because you need to set the model for your unit after you have changed the path for your imported .mdx. Whenever you change the path for the .mdx you will have to change the model for the unit again as well.

In your map your unit was set to use the model war3mapImported\umbrella on.mdl
Since you had changed the path to just umbrella.mdl it couldn't recognize the model.

Your import was correctly done.

Here's what you do:
Open the Import Manager
Import YoungLinkNew2.mdx
Import Combined.blp
Change Combined.blp's path from war3mapImported\Combined.blp to Combined.blp
Save map
Restart the World Editor

Open the Object Editor
Change the model of any unit to YoungLinkNew2.mdl

I did all those steps, but when i try to change the model to any unit, a error comes up, and world editor freezes. Please help

hmmm... I've never had freezes due to importing. Sorry, but I don't know what's causing that.

I tried your map. I got the same freezing you were talking about when giving a unit the Link model.

When removing the YoungLinkNew2.mdx and importing it again with a model file I had downloaded myself, I was able to fix the problem. My guess is that the file you have imported, somehow have become corrupted. Combined.blp was uncorrupted.

Try downloading the model again, and importing the newly downloaded file.
