Weird Man Jailed For Eating Rare Tiger

A man has been convicted of catching, killing and eating what may have been the last wild Indochinese tiger in China.

Kang Wannian, a villager from Mengla in the southwestern Yunnan Province, got a 12-year sentence and was fined a total of 580,000 including compensation to the state for economic losses. He had denied the charges.

He encountered the tiger while gathering freshwater clams in a nature reserve near the China-Laos border in February of this year. He claimed to have killed the tiger in self-defence.

A local court gave Kang 10 years for killing a rare animal plus two years for illegal possession of firearms. Prosecutors said Kang did not need a gun to gather clams.

Everyone knows it is impossible to hunt clams without a gun. This man should not have been punished at all. We also know that tigers will attack even when not provoked.

A human life is more important to me then an animal

and if this was the last tiget he would have died and then the spiecies will be gone. But when, 5-10 years later ? Without a fe-male close to the tiger there is no sex. No sex means no babys. No babies means no more new tigers to continue the population.

Not in China. They have, what, a billion humans? BUT they only had one of those tigers... how do they come to these things with animal population numbers though?

Yeah go out into a forest and find me something. It's hard, I seriously doubt they found every one of them. I couldn't even find an elk....

I think we really fail to realize extinction. I mean I remember listening to a professor talk about how there are specific types of whales that are on the verge of extinction, like only two pods left in existance. It always makes you wonder if these animals will be completely eradicated before we die (We die meaning me personally). That means that they will never be seen again, I mean what would really happen if dolphins or whales were gone completely. Now Im not an animal conservitive, I could really care less, but if a dolphin rammed me in the ocean I wouldent harpoon the thing. People scare off bears all the time by shooting the ground, did he try that? Idk I wasnt there, so I cant speculate. However eating it was the wrong choice, he should have reported it =/. Really not my concern just an interesting story. Im not cookoo im just thinking out load.
