Recruiting!!

Ok heres the deal....we are looking for dedicated editors who would like to be a part of bigger projects. Can we make good maps solo? Sure...but with a team of people we can get the job done right, better brainstorms, and quicker delivery. This is not a single project....we will be making multiple maps with different themes over time. Our website will be up shortly and all projects will be there available for download. As a member of our crew you will get credits on the website and in all projects produced.

Positions Available:

Graphic Creator/Editor: Filled

Terrain Editor: Filled

JASS Editor: Filled

Please close topic and delete....ty.

Hello, I'd be happy to be part of this, I'm a pretty decent terrainer, and I have such an insane creative genius, that it's almost a sin not to have me (sry for bragging, I'm kinda egotistical). I kinda can't email u, due to a reason I'd rather not elaborate on, but If theres any oerway, lemme knw

1.What would be my obligations if i was to sign up?
2.how often would i have to work on the projects?
3.would we be multitasking, multiple projects going at a time?
4.how would we keep in contact, and what comfort would i have that people will keep on task? in many events group projects tend to fall apart when you don't live within a few miles of each other, to keep each other on a short leash so nobody strays off..?
5. What kind of a resume would you expect? give them a day or two to work on a project with parameters and see how well they do?
Just a few questions off the top of my head that'd be good to know before any commitments are made

I would like to ask if there could be some extension position.

I define myself as creative genuis, and have edvidence to prove it.

Should I sign myself up for an area of mapmaking I am good at?

Or should I wait until you make a post for the flood of ideas.

Bunnyburn: It's ok that you cant email but we do need you to have a messenger service like Yahoo. If you can't use any of those then it will be very hard to get the map to and from you. Let me know if you can do that.

WastedSavior:

1.What would be my obligations if i was to sign up? Just that you will do your job and do it well.

2.how often would i have to work on the projects? I realize we all have lives outside of Warcraft so we don't have set deadlines but if you are doing somthing for a month that should only take a week...we will have a problem.

3.would we be multitasking, multiple projects going at a time? Not completely new maps. The only time we would be doing multiples is when we are just updating maps(fixing bugs, new units, etc). But if we start a new project we will concentrate completely on that.

4.how would we keep in contact, and what comfort would i have that people will keep on task? in many events group projects tend to fall apart when you don't live within a few miles of each other, to keep each other on a short leash so nobody strays off..? We will keep in touch via messenger, email, and private forums on our website. We will have a place that is protected for our crew only to post any concerns, questions, ideas, etc.. We will try to have weekly meetings so we can all get together and discuss the current project.

5. What kind of a resume would you expect? give them a day or two to work on a project with parameters and see how well they do? If you have any old maps that you have made...we would love to see them. Protect them before you send them if you want...but we are not in the map stealing buisness. If you don't have any old maps we will need you to show us your talent. So if you said "I do great terrain!" we would expect to see a map with some pretty cool terrain.

Lunarios:

I'm not sure what you mean by extension position...Can you be more specific? Please post your work here or email us at [email protected]. We would definitely check it out :) ...and yes if you feel you are good at somthing at want to apply please do!

Here's a little FAQ to try to answer some future questions...

Can I lose my position?

Yes, there are a few reasons that you can lose your spot on the team.

  • Late work: Always slow or taking more time than seems neccesary.
  • Leaking work: We ask that all work remain closed beta testing until further approval.
  • Cheats: If I find that you placed any hidden advantages/cheats in a map unless the map is single player or vs computer you're gone.

Am I limited to 1 position?

If you apply for a position but have other talents as well..you will not be limited to just 1 thing. Your main purpose will be the position you apply for but you can help out with other things anytime. We actually encourage you to try to learn more and expand your abilities within the editor.

When will I know if I can join?

Once we have received and reviewed your submitted map we will email you with a yes or no answer. So either way you won't just be wondering whats going on.

What do I need to communicate?

We prefer Yahoo Messenger because of its conference capabilities. It makes it easy to meet in large groups...privately. But if you know of a better program we are always open to new suggestions.

Can I leave with no hassle?

If you ever feel that its not working out or you would rather spend your time doing other things you are welcome to leave. We won't diss you on the site or anything. Just simply let us know so we can look for a replacement. All we ask is that you NOT release any of the unprotected work we as a team created before your departure. We don't want a million edits of our map out there when we worked hard to make it from scratch....they can do the same.

Can you teach me some things about the editor?

We all share little tips and tricks that make things easier and help out whenever somebody gets stuck. I can only speak for myself but I am always willing to help you when you're in a bind or trying to learn somthing new.

Well, I think I've heard enough, so ill throw my name into the hat
consider this my resume
http://www.thehelper.net/forums/showthread.php?p=346905#post346905
^ This is my current project ^
http://www.thehelper.net/forums/showthread.php?p=230393#post230393
^ This is my terraining Tutorial^
http://www.thehelper.net/forums/showthread.php?t=33301
^ This is an earlier uncompleted project ^

and the following attachment is my publicly released "Werewolf - Transylvania" Map

I've some knowledge of Jass, using loops and local variables, and id like to consider myself at least an advanced Terrainer.
So my ideal roll would be Terrainer and/or Jass Support.
Cheers

I'm somewhat interested in your idea.

So what kind of maps are you thinking of making, and what qualifies you pharcyded to lead this team? Most of my experience is in designing large strategic-war style maps

What can I bring:
1. I am an all around decent mapper. I primarily code in GUI, but im good enough with JASS to use it when GUI won't fit or leaks need to be fixed. I'm a better than average terrainer - not amazing, but I can make something look decent if I want to. I can handle most anything that needs to be done with regards to mapmaking.
2. Popularity - what good is making a decent map if no one plays it - I'm a bit of a Bnet celebrity - whenever I join games people whisper "OMG its you" and I get never ending streams of whispers - if i tell people i'm releasing a new map version they look forward to it. Plus when it comes to beta testing I have a 100 person clan i use as my betatesters, and no they do not ever leak maps.

If you don't mind i have a few questions for you..
1. Do you have any examples of your "Large Strategic War Style Maps"?
2. Similar to the first question, do you have examples of your terraining or triggering capabilities?
3. Celebrity, whats your mapping name? clan name? and what maps have you made that are popular? and how can you guarantee that out of 100 people there isn't one untrustworthy individual?

the names King_Leopold...maps i've done are war of the 12 kingdoms, and war of the lost kingdoms. I'll admit neither are the most beautiful maps terrain wise, but I dont have unlimited time so I choose to focus more on other elements of the maps

both are quite popular on bnet - mainly RoC, thought lost kingdoms has surprised me and gotten decent playing time on TFT despite being an RoC map.

my clan is KLA on US east, no not all 100 are trustworthy however, theres a decent 20-30 person core who I trust and regularly test with and who don't leak maps

WastedSavior: ty for posting your work...after I get done posting this I will go review it and see what ya got. I will send you a message on here letting you know what we think soon...

SFilip:

Your current team members? Myself, Hacktually, and ViZioNz
Any maps you're planning to do? We are planning to make RPG, Deathmatch, Tower Defense, etc but are not revealing titles to anyone other than crew members until things are near complete
Any maps you've done so far? I have completed Mafarazzo Insanity and Mayhem on RoC. I have also helped out on a Hero Wars map. I had many other close to finished projects but my computer crashed and all was lost since I was doing things solo

Leo:

I have seen 12 kingdoms being played quite a bit so that is definitely a plus. I do ask that you use the clan as a secondary beta test if you decide to join us. I feel that initial beta tests should be done within the crew only...then we can move on to more public testing if everything passes. My name is fairly popular on RoC as well. I have many people compliment my map making abilities and want to do nothing but produce fun playable maps that actually get played. We will be making a variety of maps...from RPG's to TD's. We are going to try and make a name for ourselves in many genres. What gives me the right to take lead of this?...well I originally started the crew, I have a great deal of knowledge in programming, I am providing us with the website, and I have good managing and orgranization skills. However I don't want anyone to feel like I am just a "leader". Nobody will really be ranked higher than anyone else and I will be spending hours upon hours staring at World Editor just like you. No special treatment will be happening.

sh4d0ws:

Even though we want to make TD's, etc...an ORPG is our going to be our first team project together and our main style of map that we make. I have come across some great hero saving techiniques so players can continue with their character in the map in later hostings. This ORPG is going to be very detailed and vast. We may even make it load through more than 1 map to make it seem even more like its own game rather than just a Wc3 mod. If you're interested in working with us only on RPG's...we can handle that. Just let me know and maybe we can chat more about it.

Btw...my Bnet name is PharCyDeD :D

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
