Personally, music is one of the few things that keep me going during the day. If you ask my teachers, all of them, past or current, even a few I haven't had in classes yet will tell you that I always have my headphones on. When I wake up, I put a cd on my stereo and play it. When I go to school, I have my headphones on, everytime I go in the hallway, and in a few classes (), when I walk home, when I get home, I've ALWAYS got music on! Even right now!

So, what kind of music do YOU listen to?

What metal and rock bands?

Some of my own favorites are: Disturbed, Cold, Godsmack, Earshot, Slipknot, Seether, Ill Nino, Linkin Park (the old stuff, not the new rap bs), Three Days Grace, and the list goes on, but those are the ones that came to mind.

Personally, I CAN listen to anything. I detest rap in general, but if you find a good rap song, then you found a good song and screw genre. But good rap songs are rare, in my own opinion.

I play the guitar myself I make my own songs, got kicked out of my band lol? because I was provoking what I had to share to it for new riffs, now im playing with them again, and they want to kick the other guitarist out and put me in again, they say im like 20x better, . Anyways... yeah I got alot of favorite bands

Most rap is very terrible, but there are a couple rare gems that will remain unnamed in order to not spark a debate.

Lol, I post the most in them because they're topics that interest me! Writing and NAoW are DUH'S, and Idiotic Discussions, well, I have a lot of them with my friends.

I don't really like Green Day, it seems like they came out of nowhere and have no origin...Maybe that's just me, but that's how I see it. My favorite band, for the moment, is Earshot (who I had to find to listen to). My favorite song has always been My Sacrifice, since I heard it...

Bands like Lamb of God, Shadow's Fall, Trivium, Living Sacrifice, Killswitch Engage, and God Forbid.

I hate Slipknot, they suck. I can't believe they were considered part of the "New wave of metal". Supid new metal.

I ABSOLUTEL HATE music like Green Day, or other punk crap that trys to "touch" people's hearts and say "Oh my god my life sucks" or "burn in hell because you sucked as parents to me" when they don't have a bad life.

I personally hate every band that whines about there life and what-not, becuase you shouldn't have that inn ANY music except emo. (Which is made for fags)

You should listen to Living Sacrifice's Symbiotic some time.

What's wrong with NU-metal? I like it, Godsmack, Slipknot, and I think Disturbed are considered NU-metal, too.

All of that type of metal is screaming into the mic about...Well...I don't know because I can't understand a damn word they're saying! Bunch of skinheads who learned how to pluck at a string and slam on a drum, and can yell! (Hey, you insult my music, I'm going to retaliate, PUNK! )

....I don't think Green Day is like that. Maybe it's just me. Sure, they sing about hating certain people and how depressing life is but name a band that doesn't? Anger, Depression, Fear, these feelings are strongest, and best fuel to make a song.

And also, lets not get to overzealous here, music is a topic that can turn into a debate very quickly (2nd to only religion).

But, Underground Metalcore is not Death Metal. Actually, its a bit more melodic than metal or death metal. I personally think The Haunted sucks, and they are REAL metal, because they basically bang on their instruments.

Actually, I've listened to Shadow's Fall, I believe, and it's alright...Also, someone else who's sort of like them that I listen to is Rob Zombie, but he's getting on in his age! Old freaky so and so that he is, he did have some kick a** songs, like Never Gonna Stop, and such. That more your taste, Conan?

Whatwhat? Green Day has no origin and came outta nowhere? You know they've been around for like 13 some years right? And while some of their music is pretty full of angst (but hey, my friends and I LOVED that when we were in high school and filled with our own teenage agnst LOL) some songs are just plain fun. I personally like how they can write a song about life sucks/some people are morons/oh my angst and give it a bouncy catchy tune that makes you think, wow, this song is way upbeat but the lyrics don't match that feeling. Interesting to see anger conveyed in other genres besides rock or death metal. But I am extremely biased, like I said, my friends and I were teenagers when they started to make it big so I do have a soft spot for em.

Oh hey, side note on that music as medicine title. There is a profession known as musical therapist. They go around to hospitals and nursing homes and they take music and instruments with them and let sick people play away. They say they notice a dramatic improvement in patient health after a session and more studies are being done on it all the time. I went to a seminar on it once and the lady who gave it was talking about how greatly music can affect your mood and your body and you may not even know it. For example in department stores they play slow rock or easy listening not because it is PC but because human nature is to time your steps with the music playing and so the slow music makes you walk slower and keeps you in the store longer with more chances you will see something you like and buy it. Pretty sneaky eh?

You probably weren't paying too much attention to them when they came out with their big one DOOKIE in 94, Kerplunk was before that, but lesser known. Other known albums were Insomniac and Warning

Eating the Microphone? Like singing too close up? I think they still do that, lol. It's not my favorite song on the CD, but American Idiot (the song) has the best music video. They're in some kind of warehouse but times all funky, some people are moving super fast and others in slow motion, very sporadic.
