Security-wipe a Drive.

Looking for software which will not only erase the files on a partition, but will scramble the information so that it'll be difficult, if not impossible, to recover.

As always, free is nice. But if it's popular enough, I'm sure I can manage a paid program.


Edit:: Would really like something that also writes over all the empty space on a Disk Drive, I can run that a few times too. Perhaps something that changes filenames?

I think CCleaner has a function that allows you to do that on an ongoing basis in your recycle bin and the space it recovers (disc wipe).

Yes, it is an advanced function though.

Go to Options --> Settings --> Secure Deletion --> Secure Deletion (Slower) --> Gutmann 35 Passes

Special algorithm or something that I wiki'd that makes it so not even the Department of Defence or NSA can recover stuff (I'm sure they have other ways though).
