Hi again :D

I pose the question to all anime watchers out there: Is it better to watch an anime (in japanese) with subtitles, or to watch animes that have been dubbed in english?

I've heard varying opinions, and am quite curious to see what the general thought on this is.

I personally prefer dubbed animes, but I find that the dubbing companies tend to overuse some voice actors (even though they are exceptional).

SO I wanna here from you guys what you think is better.

Hmm Odd that we haven't had one of these threads before.
Personally I think it depends on the anime, as some dubs are good. But I usually prefer subs for 75% of the animes out there

Doesn't matter. I don't pay attention to voices. I pay attention to the story and the kickass action. Nothing else.

I do know that seiyuus work very hard to voice out their characters, so I prefer subbed series, the real essence of anime is emphasized.

Oddly enough I mostly watch dubbed anime, some series have good dubs.

Anyhow, the storyline of an anime is what I'm looking for...

I find it a bit distracting to have to read and follow the action at the same time, but I understand that both the Japanese 'seiyuu' and English voice actors both have to work preetty hard, and we take this for granted.

Subbed because they take out some or a lot of words. Such as naruto dubbed swearing taken out( and then it sounds weird ) :p

Not always it depends on what the dub is on. Like I watch the Hellsing OVA on Dubbed and they are saying loads of swearing words and other things a few otherthings, but yet again Hellsing isn't suppose to be kid-friendly like Naruto is. :p

See I prefer subtitles cause you get the actual full effect of what is being said. Sometimes the english dubs usse different english words then the actual translation. I usually watch it at one point both ways tho.

I don't watch a movie to read it. Speak English. THIS IS AMERICA! :)

Subs. I have no problem reading and watching at the same time. Also, after watching subbed for example Naruto episodes, and then trying to switch to dubbed.. When i heard the voices in the dubbed version... I nearly puked.... Especially Naruto's himself voice.. To me it sounded as retarded as it can get. To me its better to just have subtitles and have the original voices. They give a better "feel".

Here in Romania, most of the TV movies are subbed. It's too much of a hassle to dub them, so I got used to reading, while watching a movie. It's something instinctual :p. Plus, I never liked dubbed voices in animes, it's not the original voice anymore and it feels weird.

Subbed.

Naruto's voice is like that of a kid and it's kind of weird..It didn't matter to the little viewers though..:p

Although not all dubbed anime series are bad, some are at least good and decent. Still, subs are my type. One important thing is: the seiyuus' voices match with the character's profile and personality. It's quite useful for me because I'm learning to speak and understand Nihongo atm. Subs expose me to new words from time to time.

Subbed, Period.

Subbed. Most dubs just sound retarded, and they tend to make the characters look sound like little children.
And, even when the dubs aren't too bad, the subs are always better. :D

I agree, if you watch Trinity Blood, you'll notice that Ion sounds like a little kid, and has this unbelievably obnoxious 'squeaky' voice that squeaks from time to time and sounds horrible.

Also, like I said, when you hear the same voice actors in multiple series, it tends to take out a chunk of originality that I assume was in the series in the first place.

I like subbed, then again it may be my uber reading skillz but dubbed usually sucks imo.

Personally I prefer subs, mostly cause I can't be bothered with looking for a decent dub XD

Seriously now, I prefer subs mostly because I prefer watching and listening to the original Japanese. I just find it weird when it's dubbed. But that's just me, I guess.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
