I will accept judges but no contestants until May 10th.

---

This would've happened sooner if it weren't for the unfortunate incident with the database.

---

TERRAINING CONTEST 3 RULES:

~Deadline: June 20th 2006.

~You can terrain ANYTHING (forest, underwater, battlefield, cave, ANYTHING).

~Sizes and Limits don't matter, use any mapping tools to make your screenies as colorful as possible.

~You may start working on your entries now.

~Any entries before May 10th or after the deadline will not be accepted.

~There will be 3 judges (including me).

~DON'T SEND THE MAPS IN, ONLY POST SCREENIES!!!

JUDGING, SCORES:

Judging will be done similar to last time:

Terraining: If your map uses alot of doodads and custom terrain etc, you will score high on this, aim for as many different ools and doodads and other things as possible.

Detail: Don't just throw a load of doodads on for a high terraining score, you need to perfect everything in order to score high for this category.

Space: Don't create an empty map for screenies, but don't overcrowd it either.
Any map with realistic space (which depends on what kind of map you're doing) will score high.

Extras: Anything extra included in the screenies will be rewarded with extra points.

Overall: (obviously) This is the total of the other 4 categories, so aim to do well in all of them.

These descriptions seem lacking... like terrain, it should just be about how many doodads you use... 1000 blades of grass all clumped together will probably look just as good as 25. Also, should it really depend on how your imports look? That doesn't really seem fair. Some people might just find a better tree model, and that would get them a higher score.

What do you mean by realistic space? I think an empty map (with bits and pieces of terraining) would look ok in the screenies, since it will only show the emptyness on the minimap. Also, that would really limit how well the terraining looks, since you will have to have a full map, with only 4 days to work on it.

Anything extra included in the screenies will be rewarded with extra points.
What extras might these be?

I'd like to join the contest, btw. :p

ugh lol..

Extras are just points out of 10, all the categories are (except overall).

---

Terraining: that doesn't say anything about making the imports look good, that's what the detail category is :/

---

Realistic Space: if you chose a forest, then you'd want it to be overcrowded but not TOO overcrowded.

If you chose a cave, you'd want it to be half and half.

Underwater, fairly empty but still include detail.

Battlescene, covered in dead body doodads and blood and tanks and stuff :p.

But seriously, if it makes sense, then it's fine :).

---

@hobo218: sorry, we've got all the judges.
@Jimpy: I'll change it when May 10th comes round (but If you can't wait then say so).

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
