1. All the stupid little kids who think they are the coolest thing that hit the neighborhood just because they can pwn you after spending half their childhood life in front a computer screen. Where are their mothers?
2. Maps that aren't friendly to new players. How am I supposed to learn how to play a map if no one will ever give me a chance?
3. "noob" is the classic insult. Let's translate: "I can kill you because I have no life and I spend 20 hours a day frying my brain on this game!"
Honestly, I think B.Net itself could use a huge change. I dunno if Blizz could even do this, but I think player stats should be available in some sort of window or something, so that when you join a "noob" or "pro" game you can know if the players are really noob or really pro. I think players should somehow be matched up with other players with similar skill abilities. This is probably too far-fetched, but hey, I can dream.
4. Dota this and Dota that. IMO, DotA sucks. It's very imbalanced, and its whole point is for players to take advantage of others who haven't played as much as them. Don't get me wrong, I play dota. But not because its a great map. I play it because there's not really anything else worthwhile, that I've found. (if anyone has any suggestions, send them my way. I'm looking for some other decent maps)
I'm sure I would like DoTA, the problem, noobs die easily and people are savages to you. They tell me to leave and all sorts of BS. Call you stupid, gosh.
Reminds me of Xbox Live, it's fun to do in my free time, but I do other stuff to, Y'know.
Other map makers could learn a lot from this thread (I know I've learned much from similar threads).
-Intro cinematics can be very disorienting, and annoying. New players aren't instantly paying attention, regular players get impatient. I say skip the intro cinematics, or skip the fancy camera work/cinematic mode. Some people like to talk before the game starts. Also, keep it short!
-On most maps where simple attacks deal most of the damage, most of the balancing can be easily done by simply "pit-fighting" a group of the units. That is, ignore spells, simply allow the units to auto-attack, and buff the loser/nerf the winner.
-On a rock-paper-scissors type map, make sure that paper can still deal quite a bit of damage to scissors. 3 paper vs 2 scissors should probably be close to an even fight.
-As mentioned many times before, short and to the point tooltips are the best. Basic information like DPS, hp, max mana, etc can be useful, but make sure there's a short description that details the PURPOSE of the unit/ability/item.
-As I've mentioned in one of my unfinished tutorials, the shorter the 'noob-introductory' period, the better. Keep map gameplay the focus, and keep the gameplay relatively simple.
-Imports are a luxury, not a necessity. Keep them minimal, and try to make them blend into the game.
While I agree with the OP in 6), that "Better than DotA" is a bad way to get new players, I disagree on the reasoning. It's bad because you're going to be getting DotA players, pessimists, trolls, and anti-DotA players. You're just asking for a Flame War. People who add this to their game name aren't saying that DotA isn't the most popular, they're stating that DotA isn't the best/most fun game.
Well my reasoning is if it's "better than DotA" it must be similar to it. Think about it, for me it's hard to say which is a better game, Counter Strike or Warcraft. I love both of those games, but they are not really the same type of game. This makes them hard to compare. Where as people who scream "better than DotA" obviously have a similar map. Where as they could say "EOTHGASDGTA! Best AoS join fast!" they don't say that, they imply it's better DotA instead. Really, if it was better than DotA that comparison would be redundant.
A game with total balance wouldn't be fun, anyways. It would be like putting everyone in a circular room with the same character and only one weapon. Even if you give them all the same weapon combination, if there are more than one, whoever takes advantage of the more useful weapon will win.
Also, you don't learn anything from playing your own game. You learn from other people who have played it critiquing it for you.
That's true, but there seems to be two "balance settings" on warcraft. No balance whatsoever, host wins and new people die instantly, or so balanced the game is so boring you die.
I can safely say we can attribute most of our peeves to Immature map makers and Players not to mention lazy map makers.
I also find the 70% of .battlenet (Here's looking at you dota whores) Lack the variety to host something else once in awhile. Sure the game's fun but hosting it over and over and over AND OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEEEER again makes it tiring.
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.
@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.
You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
